Reki always dreamt about flying. Wondering how'd be to feel the wind in his skin while he was soaring high, far from the ground. But his dreams about flying weren't like what you would usually imagine. They weren't about having superpowers, nor having wings. They were about strong hands supporting his feet while he was at the top of the world. They were about him cheering and making everyone smile.
And when he met Langa, he knew his dreams were about to come true.
The day Langa was transferred to Reki's class, his life changed completely.
Langa seemed like a shy guy, he didn't spare a glance to anyone at their class. But sometimes, he could look to the side, trying to be subtle about looking at Reki. And Reki couldn't avert his gaze from him, he was far from shy, and he wanted to think it was because he felt curious about him.
Not because he thought his new classmate was cute. No, not at all.
Reki wanted to ask him, he wanted to share his dream with someone else. So, when lunch break came, he didn't waste a minute before thinking what he was doing.
"Hey, dude! Wanna go eat lunch with me?" Reki proposed with a bright smile.
Langa looked like he was zoning out for a second, until he finally answered very determinedly.
"Yes."
They went to the rooftop, and after introducing themselves and getting to know each other a little bit to the point that they finally felt comfortable with the other, Reki finally dropped the bomb.
"Hey, Langa... have you ever thought about cheerleading?" Reki asked with a wide, bright grin.
Langa cocked his head.
"My old school had a cheerleading team, but I never saw myself there. I was on the gymnastics team." He explained, hugging his knees to his chest. But something in his gaze clouded; he looked like he was longing for something.
Reki let himself hope for a second.
Cheerleading and gymnastics had a lot of things in common. Well, at least in the acrobatic stuff. Maybe he could convince him to cheerleading together.
"Cheerleading is awesome, man!" Reki said excitedly. "It has to be so much fun to be at the top of the pyramid and soar so high up!"
Langa smiled at Reki's enthusiasm.
"Have you ever been on a cheerleading team, Reki?" He asked curiously.
Reki's smile disappeared slowly.
"No, I couldn't be able to convince anyone to do cheer with me, and you need at least three people to start a club. So, everything I know to do, is what I've learned by myself." He told Langa, rubbing sheepishly his nose with his finger.
Langa nodded, crossing his arms.
"And what do you know to do?" He asked, cocking his head for a second.
Reki's smile came back, excited to know that Langa wanted to know more about it.
"The basic flyer stunts, but of course, it's not the same doing them on the ground than doing them up there, I guess." He answered, gesturing his hands to the sky. Then, he rubbed the back of his neck, feeling embarrassed
"Why not? You have to learn to do them first on the ground before performing with your bases and backspot." Langa pointed out.
Reki's eyes sparkled. He never thought about it in that way. And he noticed Langa knew a lot about cheerleading for not having been on a cheer team before.
