Day 12: Pumpkins

"Mexi! Come on! Hurry up!" America shouted from the other room. Mexico wanted to roll his eyes but he just knew that she was so excited about this activity. Halloween was right around the corner and America decided to drag him into making jack-o'-lanterns instead of one of her best friends. He didn't know exactly why but it did make her happy. "Mexi!"

"Coming! Keep your hair bun on." He quickly went over to his dining room with two medium-sized pumpkins. And the moment America saw him, her visible left eye lit up with stars. She grabbed one pumpkin and set it on the table. Mexico shyly smiled and blushed a bit. "Thanks. Now, why did you drag me to make jack-o'-lanterns? Couldn't you have asked any of your friends? Like Japan or Philippines? How about South Korea?"

"Japan is busy with some yokai business. Philippines has some reptiles to take care of. And South Korea banned me from making jack-o'-lanterns in her house." Mexico looked over at her with a concerned look as she picked up a small knife.

"Why are you ban-" Before he could finish that sentence, America violently stabbed the pumpkin at an angle. He could have sworn that he heard a loud crack coming from not only her pumpkin but his as well. Then she saw the top of the pumpkin almost at inhuman speed before nearly ripping the top right off. What. The. Hell?! "Meri! What the hell?!"

She looked at him like he just told her that pineapple belongs to hotdogs. "What? This is how you do it."

"How you...By nearly breaking my knives?! You need to slow down! You taught you to carve pumpkins?!"

"My uncle Scotland." Ah. That makes so much more sense. Mexico sighed before taking the knife away from her. "Hey! I need that for later!"

"You are not going to destroy my knives! Just gut your pumpkin!" America stuck her tongue out before grabbing the scooping spoon. Dear Pangea, she hadn't changed that much.

"There! Done! My pumpkin looks amazing if I do say so myself. How about yours, Mexi?" Mexico looked over at America's pumpkin and was quite impressed. Her design was of the whole world map. All the lands were divided and sized correctly. She even carved the small islands almost invisible to most humans. She did a really good job.

"That looks great. I'm surprised you were able to make this since the arts was always your worse subject," America dramatically gasped and punched Mexico's arm. He laughed and punched her arm back. Might as well play her game. "But I, unfortunately, must tell you that your pumpkin is nothing compared to mine."

Mexico turned his pumpkin around and seeing America's face become admiring was worth the annoying attention to detail. On his pumpkin, it had the sugar skull from the day of the dead. It was flowers, an eagle, and a cross. "I guess I won this unofficial contest."

America rolled her eye before kissing Mexico's cheek. "Whatever. Thanks for carving pumpkins with me. I'll see you on Halloween."

Before Mexico could say anything, she left his house with her pumpkin. To say his face was blushed was an understatement.
