Day 22: Soft

To say that Philippines wasn't at one point scared of Spain was a complete lie. She was a small Colony when she met him. When she was under Spanish Empire's care, she had met his son Spain. He was quite tall and had this somewhat off aura about him. She didn't want to be near him but there wasn't much choice. Either stay with him or stay in the room.

So, Philippines stayed next to her new "brother".

But it wasn't all that bad. Each day that went by, Philippines would learn something new about Spain. At first, she thought that he was cruel like his father. However, she had noticed how soft he was with his adopted and half-siblings. Even tho most of them were wary of him, Spain had shown his siblings only love and care. Philippines was no different. He had treated her as his little sister.

Even after she was put under America's care and all his siblings became free from Spanish Empire, Spain was still kind to all of them. He tried to help all of them as much as he could, even secretly send resources to each one. Over time, however, Spain was forced to focus more on his land and leave his siblings to their own devices. She didn't really understand why but she had assumed it was because of his father.

So she just let him do what he had to do. That was all she could do.

"Hello Philippines. How are you?" Spain casually said as they walked past each other in the hallway. It had been years since they had lived under Spanish Empire's house. Both had become Countries but they had to keep a distance due to their citizens and history. That didn't mean they were silent. They would have small conversations in the hallways and Philippines could still feel the softness from him.

"I'm good. I'm a bit tired from work. How about you?"

"I'm okay. I still have to deal with my father trying to give me "advice" on how to deal with my land." Philippines giggled and patted his shoulder.

"Your father had always been a bit... unconventional."

"You can say it. Your parents tell me all the time and I'm sure UN will have a stroke if he hears those words now."

"What? No way. My parents are angrier with him than I could ever be. Besides, like you said, UN would scold us for saying those words during work hours. I'd rather keep it professional." Spain chuckled and reached out to pat her head. However, he stopped and patted her shoulder instead.

"Good idea. But every now and then, it's okay to break the rules." He looked over at his watch before speaking again. "Shoot. I have to get going. I'm almost late for a meeting. I'll see you soon."

"Yeah. See you." Even if it was short, he still had that softness to him. Philippines should really hang out with him more. Maybe she can see more of that kindness.
