What is a soulmate?
Soul; noun. 1.the spiritual or immaterial part of a human being or animal, regarded as immortal.
Mate; noun. 2.a fellow member or joint occupant of a specified thing. Similar: partner, husband, wife, etc.
A soulmate in this world meant someone who was created from the same star dust as another, and connected as half of each others souls. A destined partner. And although not everyone had a soulmate, whether it be the saddening happenings of a miscarriage, stillborn, or the simple fact that only one person was created from the stardust, which, unfortunately was the least common. And although it was rare for someone to not have a soulmate, many simply did not meet their soulmate in this life, for the fact that fate simply did not cross their paths.
Many people indulged in the idea of a soulmate and anxiously waited for the day that their time to meet their soulmate would come. Many knew they had a soulmate by their soul bonds. There were different types of soulmate bonds.
One was where you had a timer somewhere on your body, that would count down down the days, the minutes, the hours, until finally, when you meet your soulmate, it stops. Another is where the first words your soulmate says to you appear somewhere on your body in their handwriting. This manifests when your partner can first write, and the mark changes as their handwriting progresses. These obvious soulmate bonds are what give people hope, make them excitedly wait for their days to come. But, some people resented the idea of having a soulmate. One of these people being kozume kenma.
He hated the idea, "why shouldn't I get to choose who i spend forever with?" He'd spit out every time someone asked him about it. But no matter how much he prayed, wished and begged not to have a soulmate, fate seemed to do the opposite and gave him the (un)lucky fortune of manifesting a rare soulmate bond at the young age of twelve(12), the ability to enter your soulmates dreams every night. 1 in 10000 people had this soulmate bond, which usually manifested at 16 years of age. His parents rejoiced, while he did not, which resulted in him hiding and never speaking to, and never even looking at his soulmate until the ripe age of 15. Which he soon regretted greatly.
