CHAPTER SIX
TRECIA'S POV
(Spotted. Entering the same club that Ms. Myers entered.)
My eyes squinted. Not again. "Thanks. I'll send you my final payment and that's it."
(Thank you, Ma'am.)
I ended the call and was about to call Martina when my phone rang. I shook my head and sighed after seeing the caller ID. "Hey, Mommy France."
(Don't "Hey, mommy France." me, Trecia.) She sounded so pissed. (Have you read the emails I have sent you?)
I sighed and sat on my sofa as I stared into oblivion. "Uh-huh."
(Then why the hell weren't you responding?) I heard her take a deep breath. Probably to calm herself down. (Do you know how important those emails are?)
Nanatili akong nakatitig sa kawalan. To be honest, I have no plans to talk to her. But since she might fly from there to here just to scold my pretty ass, I had to answer her thirty-third call.
(Trecia! Are you even listening?) Now, she's really irritated. (We both know that your vacation isn't really a vacation, right? You barely got yourself out for a very short time. So stop being a stubborn little brat and answer me.)
"I'll be there three days from now. There's currently a typhoon in the Philippines, making it impossible to catch a flight," I said, lacking energy. No, more like not having energy at all.
I just feel so drained. I badly wanna get out of this hell hole.
I don't wanna be anyone's puppet anymore.
(Okay. That's better. Now, read the emails I have sent you. It's about another movie project of your dad that he wants you to star in.)
"Whatever, Mommy France."
I heard her let out a heavy breath. (I'm sorry for bursting out on you, little one. I was just concerned about you.)
About me or about your job? I chose to keep my mouth shut. "No worries, Mommy France. Gonna end the call. I wanna rest for a while."
(Sure, honey. Have a nice rest. We don't want any bags under your eyes,) she joked but didn't reach my system.
I just ended the call and sighed. I wanted to rest like what I told her but then I remembered what I was about to do. I still have to save that friend of mine.
I looked for his number and quickly called it. After three rings, he finally answered me. "Where are you?" I asked dumbly, even though I already know where he is.
(Nasa club. Bakit ka napatawag?)
"I badly need help, and I can't contact Feline," I lied out. That'll make him ask lesser questions.
I could hear his deep sigh and the music inside the club. (Fine. Fine. Where you at?)
I'm sorry, Martina. "My temporary house."
(Got it. Give me ten minutes.) After that, he ended the call.
I laid my back on the sofa and closed my eyes. I still have to practice for my lines later. I don't wanna mess that one up.
"What is it, Tres?"
I went back to sitting like a well-pampered princess on my sofa. "I need seven outfits for the events next month."
He then had a long face. "Hoi, ineng. Hindi mo 'ko PA. You mostly ask your PA for that, ba't mo pa ako kailangang istorbohin? Myghad! Makaalis na nga."
I somehow panicked when I saw him leaving. Think, Trecia. Think. "Wait, Martina. I still have something to say." Oh my god! What am I going to say?
The good thing was he stopped walking and faced me. Now, the bad thing is that I have to think of something to say. "What is it?" he asked in a bored tone.
"Let's go to Baguio tomorrow," was the phrase that quickly left my mouth. I wanted to facepalm myself but couldn't or else it'll be easier for him to see through me.
"I'm busy, remember?"
"How about lunch tomorrow? Dinner? Shopping?" I let my mouth go and do what they decided to say until I realized what I just said. Now, he'll read me.
His forehead creased. Prepare yourself, Trecia. "What's your deal? Why the sudden change? Trecia, you know you're not the type of person that spends her time with her friends. You prefer flirting over bonding. You go on romantic dates, not friendly dates. You like spending your time in a salon, not in my office. You are my best friend, I love the sudden change but it's confusing. So what's the deal?"
I sighed and held my head down. "I-I just want to try something new," I said, almost as a whisper.
I could feel his intense stare. "You're lying."
I glared at him, still trying to keep my act. "No, I'm not."
He sighed like he was giving up. "You're too obvious. You're clearly lying."
"So, what if I am? It's for your own good." I'm just trying to save your ass—
"What about me?"
I somehow stilled. Did I say that out loud? Nako naman, Trecia! You're failing as an actress! I removed all the emotions that might be visible on my face. "Stay away from Theresia. She is not good for you."
"Paanong napasok si Tere sa usapan?"
"She's ruining and will ruin you more, Martina. I'm just concerned—"
"H-Hang on." Confusion was written all over his face. "Anong ruin? Paano niya akong sisirain?"
I sighed as I crossed my legs. Might as well get on with this. "Martina, she has a secret that might destroy your image. Plus, I know she's changing you."
"Changing?"
"She's the reason why you didn't accept Noah's proposal, am I right?" Now, I can't stop myself from talking.
"A-Ano bang pinagsasabi mo—"
I couldn't help but stand up. "Martina! Wake up! She's nothing compared to you! She's bad news! You should've stayed with Noah. Dapat—"
"Teka nga! Ba't ka ba nangengealam? Ba't mo ba pinag-iinitan si Tere? May ginawa ba siya sayo?"
"I'm just concerned about you, Martina—"
"Oh, b*llsh*t! Walang kinalaman si Tere sa di ko pagtanggap ng alok ni Noah na kasal. I wasn't ready for marriage, and yet he couldn't wait for me, kaya kami nag-break. Labas si Tere sa usapan. At kung concern ka sa akin, thank you pero hindi mo kailangang pakelaman ang desisyon ko sa buhay. About me changing, again Tres, it's my choice."
I hardened my face. He just won't listen. "You won't like her dirty little secret, and people won't like it, and you might lose everything if you continue getting close to her. Kapag nalaman ng lahat ang sikreto niya at parte ka pa rin ng buhay niya, pwede kang madamay." Just freaking listen for once, Martina! "I told you, Martina. You don't know her as much as I do," I added.
"Whatever it is, I don't give a d*mn. There's a reason why she has a secret and I'm not the type of person that'll go around digging into that and telling it to everyone. It's her business, not mine, not yours. Respect it, Trecia. Kapag nalaman kong nangealam ka pa sa buhay niya, ako na ang makakaharap mo." He then left my house.
He's pissing me off, d*mn it! I closed my eyes and let my mind and body rest for a while.
