VALARIE LARANOV WAS AN OVER ACHIEVER.

The Heartrender had the tendency to push herself to the very edge; to force herself to do the absolute best. She feared that if something wasn't perfect, if something was out of place, it wouldn't ever be good enough. She always had a voice constantly ringing in her head, telling her that, 'It's not enough. Try harder.'

Her father had high expectations, and always expected the best from her. He had raised Valarie into being a nice, polite female, who always wore a charming smile; he wanted a perfect daughter.

Although... she wasn't.

Valarie's cold exterior clashed with others; her mind a puzzle only few could solve. She built invisible walls around her, isolating herself from her peers.

Then again, she never could fit in with the others.

She avoided people, and people avoided her.

But Valarie quite liked an Inferni named Claudia Maletev; she was very kind, and gave the best advice.

Zoya Nazyalensky, a Squaller, and Aaron Orlov, a Fabrikator, were also people she liked. The pair made her days more bearable. Valarie met them in one of Botkin's training class, and met Claudia in the library.

Her younger sister, Mira Laranov, was quite the social butterfly. She had the natural talent for easily starting and ending conversations. She seemed to always be in a bright mood and made a new friend at least everyday, which Valarie envied.

Valarie didn't have enemies; people knew better than to cross the Heartrender. But she was aware of the dislike some people had towards her. However, she always tried her best to just ignore them.

But ever since at a young age, she went through a series of relationships and friendships that ended up dirty, and most of them were just fake.

Did she really deserve all that?

She learned her lesson the hard way. So, Valarie was set on not never loving again.

Not until her.
