Sunghoon's POV
His brother who is apparently Jake's family just kept staring at me. Almost like he was judging me. My 'best friend' on the other hand just smiled softly at me.
"Is there a problem?", I said with gritted teeth.
I expected his brother to be angry but he just smirked and shook his head. I gulped when I saw his eyes turn red. So they are the same species. Jake can change the colour of his eyes too. Although I don't exactly know what they are.
"Jay, stop making him uncomfortable. Humans can't exactly handle an Alpha's eyes. You know that.", Jake spoke up making me look at him. Wait, Alpha?
He turned back to me and smiled apologetically.
"I'm sorry Sunghoon. My brother is a bit..stubborn and protective when it comes to me."
Ah. I guess that is understandable.
"Explain everything right now. What..exactly are you guys?"
Jake sighed and nodded.
"We're werewolves. Well, only Jay and his mate are pure-blooded. I'm half-blooded so that's why I look nothing like a wolf."
The entire time Jake was speaking, I was staring at him like he was crazy.
"No fucking way.", I whispered.
"Huh? Sunghoon? Are you-", Jake reached out to touch me but I instinctively flinched and the sad frown on Jake's face almost made me want to kiss it away.
"I need time. I..just need time to understand what the hell is going on here."
"Sunghoon-"
I snapped my head up to Jake and my glare made him flinch.
"Sunghoon? I'm sor-"
"No! You don't-Don't even apologise. You had two weeks to tell me. Were you going to keep this a secret for my whole life?"
"Wha-No! Of course not! I was looking for the right time to tell you..", I felt tears flood my eyes as I struggled to hold them back.
"Weak.", his brother's words made me turn to him.
He just looked at me with a judging look that oddly enough didn't look like a bad thing.
"You're a weak human. I smell sadness and longing in you."
I chuckled with bitterness.
"Great. Of course werewolves can smell emotions too."
"Jay! Why would you say that?"
"I'm just telling him as it is, Jake. What do you want me to do?"
"Oh I don't know. Keep it to yourself?!"
Jay stood up and pointed his finger at his brother angrily as the Jungwon tried to calm him down.
"Don't speak to your brother in that tone. If dad was here-"
"Dad? Really, Jay? Dad? Did you forget what he did to me?"
I saw his face flicker to one of regret as Jake scoffed.
"Jake..I'm sor-"
"I guess you thought I was a disappointment too, huh? A dog in a wolf pack? That I deserved to be thrown out?"
Jake was thrown out? By his father? He told me his owner left him. I guess that too was a lie.
"Jake, you know I didn't mean-"
"Sunghoon is the only human who even bothered to go into that dark horrible alley. He took me home and took care of me for two whole years. I know how broken he is! That's why I need to stay with him! If you can't understand that, get out."
I stared at Jake in shock as he faced the ground, his face red from anger probably. Jay glanced at me with an unreadable expression and faced his brother.
"I understand. I didn't say that to make him ashamed although if I did, I'm sorry.", He looked at me as he said the last words.
I nodded and just decided to leave the living room and to the kitchen to think about whatever just happened.
"Sunghoon..", I snapped my head to see Jungwon looking at me with a worried smile.
My best friend is a werewolf. I never even saw that coming. Does that mean he smelt Jake too?
"Did you know?"
"Huh?"
"Did you know Jake was one..of you.", he surprisingly shook his head.
"I didn't know at that moment. He looked like he was still coming into terms with his human form. I think he forgot that we met before today."
"Why didn't you tell me? I would've understood-", Jungwon laughed softly and put his palms on my cheeks, squishing them together.
"That was why I didn't tell you. You would've been in denial even more than now. Maybe even hate me for what I really am."
"What about those years you were gone?"
He retracted his palms and sat on the chair as he invited me to do the same and I did.
"There was a big attack on our pack two years ago. I was badly injured but that wasn't the bad thing. I was separated from the pack for days. I had nothing on me. My howls were too far for them to hear."
"Then Jay and his mom found me and kinda saved me. And this.", He revealed his collarbone and there was a moon tattoo?
"A tattoo?", Jungwon chuckled and shrugged.
"Close. It's a mating mark. Werewolves who mate have to mark each other. Jay has one of his own."
"So you guys are..like married?"
"Yeah, that's the closest word to mate.", Jungwon said with a chuckle.
Jungwon is married to Jay? Or mated. Whatever they call it down in werewolf world.
"It's okay to be afraid of us, Sunghoon. I would be if I was just a human."
"I'm not scared of you guys."
"No?", I shook my head firmly and it brought a smile to his face.
"That's great to hear. So we're still besties?", I smiled and nodded.
He held out his pinky finger and it made me laugh.
"Not this again."
"Hey! Either pinky promise on it or we ain't besties."
I sighed and wrapped my pinky with his.
"Besties.", We said at the same time.
