Jace’s POV
Lucy sets her test on the stack with the others. That’s the last one. “Okay, now that everyone is done with the test I would like you all to pull out a book to read for the last ten minutes of class.” I tell everyone as I grab the test papers. A collection of groans spread across the room. I smile. “Ten minutes of reading won’t kill you. Once you get into your book time will fly. I’ll try to get your test graded for you to see before you leave.” I tell them as they pull out a book. One of the popular kids speaks up,
“But were not readers like you! Reading is boring!” Matt complains.
“It all depends on the book you have. If you someone who has their head in the clouds a book about business trade chances are they’ll find it boring, but if you give them a book about adventure or fantasy chances are they’ll like it. What book did you bring to class?” I ask.
“Um, Diary of A Wimpy Kid.” He says blushing slightly. I stand up and go over to my bookshelf.
“You’re in football right?” I ask scanning the books.
“Yeah, why.” He says.
“Ah ha! I think you’ll like this book. It’s about this small town team trying to make it big. It’s actually very good.” I say handing him the book. Luke read it and said it was really good and recommended it to me. I sit back down and start to grade the test as the room goes silent.
“Okay I’ve got your test graded. I’ll call you one at a time to see your score, May. . .”
The bell rings as I show the last person their grade. Matt goes up to my desk.
“Here’s you book back, Mr. Wolf.” He says.
“Oh. thanks, did it catch you interest or did you just pretend to read it?” I ask.
“Actually it was interesting. I didn’t expect you to read sports books. No offense.” He says.
“No offense taken. A very close friend recommended it to me.” I tell him. “I’m glad you like it you can read it anytime your in my class.” I tell him smiling. He blushes.
“Th. . .Thanks.” He says and heads out the door. I gather up my papers and organize them for tomorrow. I pack up my things and head out the entrance. I see Luke parked out there and I smile. Throwing my stuff in the back I hop into the passenger seat.
“Hey, babe, How was your day?” Luke asks.
“It was pretty normal. They had a test today.” I tell him.
“How’d they do overall?” He asks as we drive home.
“Most of them were in the B to A grade range, but a few of them got C’s.” I tell him taking his hand that he had on the armrest in between us. He smiles not taking his eyes off the road as he squeezes my hand gently.
