Jace's POV(Picture is Sarah)

"Have a good day and see you all tomorrow!" I send-off as they rush out the door to leave for home or other activities. A few of them reply with their own farewells and others don't spare a glance. I smile, swiveling slightly in my seat. Once all the students leave I get up to organize my class room. I wonder if Sarah will appear? I straighten the rows of desks, picking up any trash on the floor.I find a few left behind pencils and add them to my pencil jar.
"Um. . .Mr. Wolf?" I hear Sarah's hesitant voice at my door. I turn around, giving her a gentle smile.
"Hello, Sarah,. Please, come right in," I say when she hesitates at the door. Seemingly reluctant, she comes in, re-shutting the door.
"Is it alright if I talk to you for a bit?" she asks sheepishly.
"Of course. Do you want to sit on the floor with me? I have gummy bears," I ask, grabbing a jar of the colorful gummies and walk over to a spot under my white board.
"Sure?" she says, sounding unsure. I sit down, crossing my legs, and pat the spot next to me. She sits with her hands in her lap, wringing her fingers.
"Gummy bear?" I ask, holding the jar out to her. She smiles a little and takes a few. I do the same and set the jar between us. "How's your day been?" I ask.
"It's been okay. How's yours been, Mr. Wolf?" she replies politely.
"Surprisingly good and you can call me Jace if you want. Technically I'm off the clock as a teacher today. But you can do whatever makes you comfortable."
"Jace?" she says experimentally. "Is it short for Jason?"
"No, my parents named me after my great grandpa, Jace Dupain," I explain.
"Is Dupain your "maiden" name? Are you and Luke married?" she asks. I smile.
"Luke and I aren't married, but you could sort of consider Dupain my maiden name. The women who adopted me share the last name Wolf. So, I became Jace Wolf," I explain.
"You said that you have two mothers, right?" she asks. I nod. "And they're married?" I nod again. "How long?" she asks.
"Several years, actually. They got married, I think, two years before they adopted me and they adopted me about 10 or 11 years ago," I tell her. Her eyes widen.
"Really?" she asks and I nod. "That's amazing," she whispers and then she lowers her light blue eyes, looking a little somber.
"What's on your mind, Sarah?" I ask gently. She bites her lip then, takes a deep breath.
"I'm gay," she states, hugging her knees to her chest.
"Am I the first one you've told?" I ask quietly and she nods, her eyes getting moist. "Thank you," I say and she looks a little surprised. "I'm glad you trusted me with this," I tell her with a little smile. She returns it. "Have you thought about telling your parents?" I ask.
"Of course," she says. "But I know they won't approve."
"Why do you think that?" I ask.
"Because they're Christian; not the kind that accept it, but the kind that say gays should rot in hell," she says and a tear falls down her cheek. It makes me want to cry; I'm a very emotional person.
"There's still a chance though. I've heard of a few cases with parents like that, that once the child came out and spoke to their parents, the parents perspective changed," I tell her.
"I know, but I'm scared that they won't. I'm not their actual kid, so they'll just throw me back into the foster system. They're my seventh home. I don't want to move anymore. I like it at this school. I have friends here. I don't want to say goodbye anymore." Her voice cracks with the last sentence. More tears start to fall; she's basically crying now. I move the jar out of the way and scoot closer to her so that our shoulders are touching, hoping that the touch would help.
"I know it's scary, I really do, but your gonna have to tell them. If they can't accept that then they aren't the parents for you. You don't have to do it today, but someday. It'd be best to not put it off for too long," I tell her. She nods, sniffling.
"Okay, thanks, Jace. I'll try to," she says and I smile a little when she says my name.
"So, to lighten the mood a bit, is there any girl you have a crush on right now?" I ask. She blushes a little and I smile.
"I. . .Well. . ." she stutters, getting flustered.
"You do, don't you?" I say, grinning.
"I never said that!" she says blushing furiously. I laugh.
"Come on, let's talk girls, because I'm totally the expert on girls you know. You know how much I love girls," I joke. This earns a giggle from her.
((Four Days Later))
It's been four days since Sarah came out to me. She told me that she has a crush on a girl named Morgan and I really think they'd make a cute couple. Morgan is the taller of the two and she has silver hair which is short, unlike Sarah's long pink hair. Despite Sarah's social disposition, she always gets too flustered to talk to Morgan. I asked her if she wanted some detention time (Morgan always seems to be in there). She quickly shock her head which had caused me to laugh. It wasn't too long before she had to go to practice.
I'm walking down the hallway when I see Sarah's bright pink head. She has her head down and is walking quickly. I feel a twinge of worry spark in my chest. I make my way over to her.
"Good morning, Sarah," I greet when I reach her. She glances up slightly, her hair hiding most of her face, then she looks down quickly.
"Um, h-hey, Mr. Wolf," she says, her voice sounding a little shaky.
"Are you okay?" I asks.
"Yeah! I'm fine!" she says quickly, still not looking up. I have a sinking feeling in my stomach.
"Sarah, please look at me," I ask. She shakes her head ever so gently, as if she was trying to keep her hair in place. Gently, I take her by the elbow, pulling her into the quiet library. "Sarah. Look at me," I plead. She huffs lightly and does, her face a mix of anger and sadness. I gasp. "Oh my god!" Around her right eye, up to her right temple is a dark, black and blue bruise. "Who did this to you?" I ask.
"I told my parents. My "mom" was disgusted and my "dad" was furious. He wanted to smack some sense into me. They're probably going to put me back into the system," she tells me , sounding angry but also ready to cry.
"Sarah. . . I'll do something about this, okay?" I say, meaning it. She laughs bitterly.
"Don't worry. You're just my teacher. There's nothing you can do," she says and angrily wipes at a tear, but flinches, because of the bruise.
"Just because I'm your teacher doesn't mean I don't care or can't do anything. I'm going to help you."
Bing!
Bing!
Bing!
"We'll continue this after school. Okay? Come speak to me later," I tell her firmly. She nods, wipes at her eyes again, and leaves. I sigh. What am I going to do?
