Jace POV
"Joey, it's time to get up." I shake Joey gently. He lets out a groan in protest. He tries to bury his face into his pillow. "Come on." He groans. "Get up. You're going to school with me." I tell him. He raises his head, his hair sticking up like a purple fire.
"Why can't I stay home?" He whispers tiredly.
"Because we aren't leaving a relapsing drug addict home alone." Luke says not at all quietly as he turns on a light. Joey groans and hides his face in his pillow.
"Come on. Go get ready. We leave in twenty." I say patting his back. I turn on the news and go to scrounge up something to eat. When I get into the kitchen I see that Luke is a step ahead of me. He's already starting eggs and toast.
"Does he like scrambled or..."" He asks.
"Toast means sunny side up. He likes to dip his toast in the yoke. Without toast he's a scrambled kind of guy." I say as I start to help.
"So, sunny side up it is." He says as I give him the other small skillet.
"I'll make the toast." I tell him as he cracks the eggs open. I make up toast for each of us. I'm finishing up just as Luke does. I grab the plates and silverware. I put Luke's toast on his plate and hand it to him.
"Thanks." He says with a smile. I give him a kiss.
"Ah, yes. PDA early in the morning. Remind me again why I thought staying with the couple that go after each other like rabbits was a good thing?" Joey complains when he gets into the kitchen.
"Because we're your favorites." I say.
"Because we let you." Luke says at the same time.
"Hmm, favorite is a strong term and could you really refuse me, your soon to be little brother-in-law?" He says as I hand him his plate.
"Let me rephrase: We feed you food not drugs." Luke says. Joey looks down and scratches the crook of the inside of his elbow. I elbow Luke and give him a look. He mouths sorry to me. Luke never seems to be able to handle Joey's drug problem gently and sometimes it helps, but sometimes, like now, it's just mean. He's always had a strong feelings against drugs thank to the fact that his birth mother was a drug addict. Luke steps closer to Joey and ruffles his hair. "Sorry, kid. Go ahead and get your food. You both have to leave soon." He says patting his head before going to eat in the living room. Joey smiles a bit before doing as told. I notice that his hands are shaking as he gets his food. After a moment of watching I do the same and go to where Luke is.
"Luke?" I whisper sitting down next to him.
"Yes, Babe?" He asks around a bite of food.
"Joey's shaking again. Can you check on him before we leave? I just want to make sure he didn't bring any drugs with him or anything." I say.
"Yeah, okay." He says rubbing my arm.
"I'd do it myself, but I've never been good at that sort of stuff." I whisper apologetically.
"It's okay, Sweetheart. I'm the one aspiring to be a doctor after all." He assures me with a kiss to the forehead.
"I think I'm going to throw up my eggs." Joey teases making fake gagging noises.
"Joey, we all know you have a gag reflex of steal." Luke says both joking and serious. Joey sputters around his eggs.
"I-I-no-What-!" He stutters.
"I mean he's right." I pipe in mischievously. "Remember that time you shoved a fork down your throat, because- and I quote- "You can deepthroat better than me.""
