Jace's POV
Nervously, I enter the school building. The halls are pretty empty; most students are not here yet. Trying to remain as calm as I can, I make my way to my classroom. Thankfully, I make it to my room without passing anyone, and quickly I unlock my door and switch the light on. I scan the room for any differences. Everything looks exactly the same as when I left. I go to my desk, everything in order. There is a note from my substitute; a report on how the students were. I sit in my desk, setting my bag in front of me. I pull out my laptop and papers then set my bag in my bottom-most drawer. Once everything in order, I pull out the paper I wrote my speech on. I hear light footsteps cautiously enter my room.
"Mr.Wolf?" Sarah asks.
"Yes? What is it, Sarah?" I ask, turning in my chair. She brightens up a bit and it makes my mood brighten. She actually looks relived to see me.
"You are back!" she exclaims happily. "Thank god. I was worried because of what happened Thursday, and with what we saw a lot of us were worried," she rushes out.
"Wait, slow down a bit. What do you mean by 'what we saw'?" I ask.
"Um, well. . .When your pants were pulled down we could see the scars on your legs," She says quickly. I blink. Was that why they were looking at me like that Thursday? I thought it was because i was being pantsed.
"You saw my. . .my scars?" I ask. She nods.
"Um, I was also wondering if that was why you wore long sleeves to school everyday?" she asks kind of shyly.
Bing!
Bing!
Bing!
"We will continue this later, Sarah. We are needed in the gymnasium," I tell her. She looks confused.
"Wha–" She's cut off by the intercom.
"Students and faculty please meet in the gymnasium for a convocation," Mrs. Fisher, the secretary, announces. I stand up with a sigh. I take out an anxiety pill and take it, using my coffee to wash it down. Sarah gives me a questioning look and opens her mouth to say something. I stop her, shaking my head.
"Go on," I shoo. "I'll see you in a few."
"Okay. See ya, Mr. Wolf," she says and walks out. I take a deep breath. I look at my prepared speech and leave it. . .
"Good morning," Mrs. Strickland says and there is a dull, tired reply. I smile to myself, despite the fact I am planning to speak from my heart, instead of using my planned speech. A plan that can either go down in flames or bloom beautifully, as Luke would put it. "How are you all doing on this fine morning?" she asks, followed by another tired reply that makes them sound like zombies. "Don't sound too excited to see me," she jokes, trying to keep the air light. "The reason we are having a meeting this early is to finish the meeting from Thursday afternoon that was so rudely interrupted. If anything like that happens today, you all will be in trouble. Not just the student that causes it, but each and everyone of you," she says with a stern look. Then, she smiles. "That is all I have to say. Now, I will turn it over to Mr. Wolf, and I expect you to treat him with respect, unlike last time." With that she starts walking towards me and I walk from the entrance I was hiding in. I have flash backs from Thursday, but my heart rate still picks up. Calm. . .Calm. . . Mrs. Strickland hands me the microphone. "Good luck," she says this time. I nod, trying to beat down my nervousness. I stand at the centre of their sharp gazes. This time no one runs up, everyone remains seated as I open my mouth to speak.
"Um, good morning. H. . .How is everyone? Tired?" I ask like I'm just talking to my first period class, instead of the school. There isn't a reply. "Settle down," I joke, like Mrs. Strickland did.
