Luke's POV
"Here you go, Miss Denis," I say, handing her her papers. "Remember you need to be back in here next Friday," I remind her.
"Yes, thank you, dear." She smiles a sweet grandma-like smile. "Have a nice day."
"Thank you, you too," I reply. I let out a sigh after she leaves, running a hand through my hair. I look through the papers in front of me with my head resting on my hand. Amanda, another intern, comes back from her break.
"Hello," she greets me, heading over to her station.
"Hi," I mumble, sighing.
"What's up with you?" she asks.
"What makes you think somethings up?" I ask, turning around to face her.
"Because this is normal you; 'Good afternoon, Mandy! How are you on this wonderful day? Wow, that is great!'" she chirps all peppily with a huge smile. "This is you right now; 'Hi.'" She slouches her shoulders and sighs exaggeratedly. "So, spill the beans. Why is Mr. Pep-in-my-step so depressed?" she asks. I sigh, running a hand through my hair.
"It's just a fight," I reply.
"Oh, are you and your little boyfriend having one of those fabled fights you guys supposedly have?" she asks.
"What do you mean?" I ask.
"Well, I've never actually seen you guys have a fight. I've only heard of it and even those aren't many," she says.
"So...?"
"So, it's nice to know that you guys are an actual couple. Every couple fights. It's only normal that when you put two living thinking things together that they aren't going to agree on everything. So, what are you guys fighting about?" she asks. I sigh.
"It just a stupid fight," I say.
"About?"
"He got mad when I told some friends of a close friend that we were a couple and I got mad that he got mad. Then, I called him out on his anxiety, which was a dick move on my part. I also asked if he was ashamed of being gay, another dick move. Finally he stormed of into the bedroom, locking me out so, I spent the night here," I explain.
"Wow, who knew you could be such a dick?" she states, raising her eyebrows.
"Shut up," I say, though it does coax a bit of smile out of me.
"Just sayin'. So, have you tried talking to him since?" she asks, looking at some papers.
"I've been here since this morning and it's another hour before I get off. He's ignored all of my texts, but I hope that is because of school," I say.
"It's Saturday," she says quietly.
"I know," I say with a humorless laugh.
"Well, try talking to him after you get off. You shouldn't have left in the first place. Haven't you heard that you shouldn't go to bed angry.
"I know, but once Jace locks himself in the bedroom he won't listen. Especially if he decides that he's going to also add music to block me out. He's so stubborn," I say. I glance down, smiling. I think of how his mouth sets when he refuses to be moved and the way he'll nervously link his hands when he's sticking up for himself with such a small twinge of nervousness. When I first met him he could barely speak out, so I'd never imagined he could be so stubborn. I feel a twinge in my heart.
"Okay, I'm going to give you a tip. Before you go home, get him something nice. Something he'll like. Then you go home and use that to get his attention. Then, you sit on your couch and talk it out. M'kay?" Amanda asks. I give her a light smile.
