(Art by me, not necessarily relevant to the chapter)

The morning itself was peaceful, little stories were shared between the four at the table, food was eaten, pots were washed, it was normal.

Though the elephant in the room were yet to be addressed. Spooks still hadn't confessed to where she'd been and the obvious issue with time gaps.

Sans hadn't wanted to push it, but the agitation to know was very evident. Much like Spooks, Sans was one to always search for answers. Hence why he had wanted to follow in his father's footsteps.

Sans sat on the porch outside their house, little clouds forming from his breath in the cold. There had been a chill flowing through the underground recently.

There had even been reports coming from Hotland that the core had been a few degrees colder. It wasn't a worrying thing, but still. Cold.

Like the underground was clearing the air, something big was soon to happen he just knew it. The last time he had a hunch like this one his sister disappeared for 12 years. Needless to say he trusts his non existent gut.

The silence was interrupted by the front door opening and shutting behind someone.

That someone was spooks.

Sans looked up at her in acknowledgement before she sat down next to them, both of them at eye level with each other.

Neither said anything to begin with, just sat in silence.

It was spooks who spoke first.

"Grillby is inside, Papyrus insisted on teaching him how to cook spaghetti, but I'm pretty sure it's the other way around with grillby doing the teaching." she chuckled quietly.

Sans smiled sightly.

"that sounds about right, for the both of them actually." he sighed wistfully, resting his skull on his folded arms in front of him.

"you two are close, huh? I mean I knew you were close before but.. Its different know. You and grillby I mean."

Her gaze lingered upon her brother as he did not reply. That's okay, he didn't need to. She knows.

Silence once again made an appearance between the two, the occasional clang of pans could be heard from inside the house.

Spooks heaved a hefty sigh, the cold air of the underground filling her non existent lungs, making her nose cavity tingle with the frostiness of the town.

"so you gonna tell me where you've been?" sans spoke up, turning his head to look over at her.

"I... I can't bub." she sighed.

"can't, or won't?" Sans' melancholic expression soon turned sour, his brow furrowed.

"don't be like that..."

"be like what? You're the one who won't tell us anything." he huffed.

"I can't tell you, its to protect you and papyrus."

"from what? Protect us from what sis?"

Her thoughts drifted back to the people she'd met, the bad and the good, the destruction and the creation.

"I hope you won't have to find out." she sighed.

Sans did not reply. Only sighed in response, getting up from the porch and returning inside. Before he opened the door however, he stopped and turned back to where his sister was now sitting alone.

"I know you weren't in the underground. Wherever you were, you didn't show up on any of my scanners. You can't hide the truth from me."

With that, he turned back and entered their home.
