Imagine if the answers to every question you've ever asked, could be given to you free of a price no money could buy, the only cost itself would be to sacrifice everything. Everyone.
Now the question is would you do it?Spooks couldn't help but think back to the book, which she'd left hidden in her room. It seemed as though it held the answers she seeked. About realities. About souls. Resets. Everything she couldn't understand.
The only issue was, she weren't sure if she were ready for the burden of such knowledge. And worse, what would happen if it got out? If her father found the answers he himself was searching for.
Her mind was suddenly brought back to the present when sans coughed to grasp her attention.
"uh.. As I was saying, pap wants to order food now so, that cool?" he said awkwardly, almost as if he felt guilty for breaking her trance.
"of course, sorry my mind is a mess today! Do you two want anything, sans? Grillby?" she offered.
Sans shrugged, and Grillby seemed to think for a moment. Of course the elemental didn't really need to be offered, considering his dad owned the place and he got his meals for free anyway, but he respected the gesture regardless.
" ill just have fries, Grillbs wanna share?" he asked his friend.
The kindling seemed to nod, with a warm smile. Pun not intended.
"okiedokie then, and pumpkin what do you want?"
"ghetti!" the baby bones shouted, earning a few concerned and annoyed looks from some of the bar's patrons.
Spooks laughed it off, got up and headed to the bar to order their food.
Her eyes once again caught the lonely patron surrounded by her books. There was something interesting about her, but spooks couldn't quite grasp what it was.
She ordered the food, and sat back down, once again listening to the conversation between sans and Grillby, as well as papyrus' little inputs in the form of excited yells.
The food arrived and the four of them ate in almost silence, surrounded by the noise of plates, the gentle hum of an almost broken jukebox, and the drunken slurs of one particular patron in the corner.
By the time the four of them had finished, the 'sun' had completely set, and the underground grew dark.
The nights in snowdin were usually cold, but tonight seemed colder than ever.
The three of them bid farewell to the bartender and his son, before heading back out into the cold and beginning their journey back home.
"does it seem weirdly empty to you or just me?" sans spoke up, filling the silence between them.
Now that he mentioned it, the town almost seemed barren tonight, there was next to no monsters in sight. Surely they hadn't stayed out that late.. Right?
"maybe it's because of the cold, I'm sure anyone in their right mind would stay in tonight..." she hesitated.
Something was off.
"still, it's weird, I ain't seen anyone out at all since we left Grillbs'. There's usually atleast some snowdrake or one of the dogs or somethin'."
Spooks silently agreed. But alas, they reached their house without issue, so it was surely nothing to worry about.
The three of them dusted off the snow from their coats and shoes, before preparing themselves for sleep.
Papyrus, pretty much tuckered out as he was, got into bed and went to sleep instantly, without needing his usual bedtime story.
