Spencer and Elle sat silently in the conference room, avoiding eye contact. Garcia was avoiding the room for as long as she could pull off. After a painful 10 minutes that felt like forever, Elle finally broke the silence.
"So where do we go from here?" She asked quietly.
"I don't know." Spencer replied.
"We can't go on like this." Elle said.
"I know." Reid said.
"Care to actually offer anything to this conversation?" Elle snapped.
"I don't know, alright?" He said.
"Then how are we ever going to get anywhere?" Elle said, exasperated.
Spencer simply shrugged.
"You're so frustrating!" Elle shouted. "What, can you not even handle the ideal of just being civil for gods sake?!"
"You are so thick!" He yelled back.
Elle gave him a confused look. "What?" She snapped.
"Don't you get it? I don't want to just be civil, I don't even want to just be friends! It's you, Elle! It was always you! I was hurt, of course I was, but I never stopped loving you!" He shouted.
Elle stopped pacing, and turned to look at him. He was breathing heavily from shouting, and messing up his hair in agitation. She stared at him for a second longer, then strode the three steps between them, and crashed her lips onto his.
He was taken aback for a second, then returned the kiss, pushing her back against the wall, one hand resting firmly on the wall beside her head, the other on her waist. When they could both no longer breathe, she rested her head on his chest, and he wrapped his arms around her, subconsciously rubbing her arm gently.
The team ringing them disrupted the moment, and they both quickly pulled away from one another, awkwardness building between them once more, not so hostile, but more questioning, because where did they go from here?
Hotch's face came onto the screen. "Just wanted to check in, and see if you'd looked over victimology yet?"
Luckily for Elle, who had spent the awkward ten minutes staring at him, Reid had actually done some work during that time, and was able to answer Hotch.
"Surface level, no obvious links other than work." Reid said.
"But we'll dive deeper with Garcia." Elle added, to sound like she'd done something.
"Okay. We land in about an hour, I'll check in from the police station." Hotch said, and ended the call.
The room filled with silence once again.
"Guess we should go see Garcia in the bat cave then." Elle said, and stood up.
Just before she could reach for the door, she was pulled back and her arms pinned above her head. Spencer kissed her for a few seconds, then pulled away and walked out the room calmly, offering her a subtle wink, leaving Elle breathing heavily.
Flustered, Elle smoothed out her hair. "Oh it is on Dr Reid." She murmured to herself, then went after him.
"Take your time Greeneaway." Spencer said when Elle came into the room with him and Garcia.
Elle glared at him for a moment, which made him laugh more.
Garcia was too concentrated on her screen to notice the exchange, prompting Spencer to try his luck further. He placed his hand first on the left side of Elle's waist, which was closest to him, then slowly moved further, until his arm was wrapped fully around her waist. He started drawing circles with his fingers, which Elle tried to ignore as she asked Garcia a question.
