Eddies PoV
What Venom and I like to call "The Carnage Fiasco" happened a little over two years ago now, and ever since then, we've been labeled criminals that were to be arrested on sight. It was a gut punch, having to leave everyone and everything I came to know behind, but I try to see it as a fresh start.
We ended up settling down in a small town in Michigan, all the way on the other side of the country. It was just about as far as we could go while still being in the United States, but even with the distance we've already put between ourselves and San Francisco, it seemed like we just couldn't get far enough away.
After weeks of travel, finding Standish was a godsend. It was perfect for our predicament, home to a town of people who had no interest in keeping up with the media, and just obscure enough to not be suspicious. The quaint scenery and lush green trees were just bonuses.
It was the complete opposite from the life we lived before, and it took a lot of adjusting before we could ever try and call it home. But after going through the hassle of changing my name, finding a place to stay, and making sure that I got rid of as much potential evidence that could be traced back to us as I possibly could, I managed to land a job stocking shelves at a local grocery store.
Sure, it wasn't the best job in the universe, and I would've much preferred my old one, but it wasn't as terrible as some other ones could've been. I'd much rather stock shelves while listening to a podcast for a few hours than sit around at a drive-thru window all day or something. Not that there's anything wrong with a job like that, I guess it's just not up my alley.
Although it took time to accept, I've come to love and appreciate the stability that took so long to rebuild. And when I'm doing little mundane things like doing dishes or making coffee, I like to think about all the progress we've made.
I sat in the kitchen at the dining room table, staring out of the sliding glass doors and out into the backyard where the chickens were all roaming about. Venom was trying yet again to make pancakes, and I had to admit, they were getting better.
"You forgot to take the cap off-" I tried to warn, but it was too late. A golden brown wave of syrup soars across the room, splattering across the once clean red oak flooring and a few of the cabinets. Taking a sip of coffee, I swallow thickly. leaning back. "You're cleaning that up."
"Vile thing!" Venom hisses in frustration at the empty bottle before chucking it at a wall, leaving yet another splatter. You'd think that a divine being born from the stars, harvesting the secrets of the universe for hundreds of years may have even a fraction of a braincell at the end of the day, but it would seem that Venoms wisdom lake had run dry long ago, and the alien was just as lost as the rest of us.
"Better luck next time." A slimy tentacle-like appendage sets the plate of pancakes in front of me at the table, and it surprisingly looks decent. "Wow, these actually look great. Not burned or anything. I'm proud of you, Vee," I praise, feeling the tendril wrap tenderly around my wrist.
"Thank you, Eddie."
While eating, I begin to think about what was on the agenda for the day, silently making a list in my head of what needed to be done while Venom made an attempt at cleaning up the mess they'd made. "Let's see here, uhh... we already fed the chickens, and took a shower. I think we're probably gonna have to make a chocolate run, I'm pretty sure you ate the last bar last night while you were on another rampage about Batman vs Superman."
