Eddie's PoV
Ashley and I are driving to Hannah's house, and I haven't had a feeling quite like this in years. My hands are gripping the wheel, and I could feel myself breaking out into a cold sweat. My legs are shaking, my thoughts a tornado of cataclysmic damage, and my mouth is dry with all of the things I wanted to blurt out at the last second but didn't have the courage to say.
I glance over at Ashley, who's naturally tanned skin had gone ghostly white, her eyes wide and unmoving from the road in front of her. She looks terrified, and when I see her dress clutched in her hands, it serves to prove my suspicions right.
"It's not too late to turn around, you know." I see her turn toward me out of my peripheral vision, but I don't look away from the road, in case she changes her mind. "We can still go home. Just say the word and I'll turn the car around."
Silence falls upon the car, and I can tell that my offer is tempting her. She's deep in thought for a moment, but something is keeping her, and after a few seconds have passed I somehow already know what her answer is going to be. A sigh pushes it's way passed her lips.
"We can't... I don't think that this is something we can run from." Her eyes gravitate back towards the road, and I can't help the disappointment that creeps up on me at her answer. Even so, I know that she's right. If we didn't stop Hannah now, then when? Still, it sucked that it had to be us to put an end to it all. The universe is cruel like that sometimes.
"Well, it was worth a shot," I resign.
We spend the rest of the car ride in a tense state of anxiousness, and each moment we grew closer to our destination was another brick added to the weight of the baggage we were carrying. Finally we pull in, and I don't get the same dazzled feeling as I did the first time. The iron gates at the entrance were suddenly prison gates, the long driveway a road directly to the devils castle of brick and vine. The angel statue that was once a beautiful greeting cried out for us to turn back, and the stained glass windows were nothing but a barrage of pretty colors to distract you from the blood that was spilled here. There was no comparison, and no familiarity, to the grey slaughter house that I saw before me. The car parks, and I let out a deep breath as I turn off the engine.
"You ready, kid?" I ask, turning to my friend who looked just about ready to pass out.
"Are you?" She replies quietly. I shake my head.
"No..."
We both stare for a few seconds, and then eventually we exit the car with an understanding in each other. We approach the house, walking up the steps and into the belly of the beast, and as I raise my fist to give the door a knock, I give one last look to Ashley, as if telling her that this was our last chance to book it and never look back. When I get no protest, I give the door a few good raps, letting the host know that her guests have arrived. My gut is twisting in discomfort with every second that passed, but we aren't left waiting too long before we're met with none other than the cannibal herself.
"Hello my darling's! I'm so glad you both could make it!" She wears a smile so friendly and pristine, but all I see are teeth in a starving maw. The act begins as Ashley and I return the favor, grinning back at her like she's an old friend, or for Ash, a devoted lover.
"It's nice to see you too, Hannah," I return simply.
"Disgusting creature," Vee hisses.
"Well come on in, don't be strangers," she gushes, gesturing for both of us to follow her inside. We waste no time in trailing behind her, and once again, the first thing that I notice is the smell of cleaning products. The first time around you think nothing of it, but now it makes sense. If you're going to be dragging bodies and blood through your house of course you'd want to make sure nothing is left behind. I'm sure she cleans this place from top to bottom every week, or possibly even every day depending on how many victims she's had here.
