Eddie's PoV
This was a disaster. No, it was worse than a disaster. It was a travesty, and I couldn't possibly even begin to unravel the tangled mess of events that lead to this point, but for Ashley I had to try.
So the next three days were tireless as I tried to find a way to get us all out of this alive, however I began to find that would be much more difficult than I could have ever hoped. It was nearly an impossible feat, trying to work within the restrictions Venom and I were required to follow in order to stay out of the eye of the law. Every which way I thought of only lead to a worse outcome.
I couldn't go to the cops, one search on my background and we'll be behind bars before morning for sure. Honestly that wouldn't bother me as much a few months ago. I mean with Venom here I doubt a jail cell would suffice in an effort to contain us, but now that we have a kid on the way we kind of needed a stable home. Was my home and identity worth Ashley's safety? Was I supposed to just turn a blind eye to everything we saw at that dinner? I knew I couldn't let this go unspoken, but I needed to find some kind of loop hole through the system that could ensure Hannah is caught for her crimes, and all of us are kept safe, identity and all.
It was only when day four rolled around the corner, consisting of the same routine of going to work just to come home and speculate about Hannah a little while longer before I had to go to work again the next day, did Venom feel they needed to step in.
I found myself waking up at the kitchen table disoriented, with a headache, and a desperate need for water that scraped at my throat like sandpaper. My lovely symbiote comes to my rescue, presenting me with a glass that was cold to the touch, and I graciously accept. Once I down about half the glass, I'm able to begin properly assessing my surroundings, and I'm met with a very stern looking alien.
"M-Mornin' Vee," I say, only making their gaze sharpen. "Why're you looking at me like that dude?"
"Because it is 8 at night Eddie, and you just told me good morning!"
My eyes widen and I hop up from my chair to look out the window and find our backyard, shrouded in darkness and moonlight. I take a moment to accept the reality before my own eyes, and then once it's fully settled in, I walk back to my chair and take a seat with my head in my hands.
"I-.. I don't know what happened," I utter in a small, defeated voice.
"You are driving yourself into the ground and you passed out on the table, that is what happened." My head shoots up from my hands and I'm quick to retaliate.
"No, no, you cannot say that, I have been working!"
"Eddie, please, do not be dense. Look around."
I do as told, and shamefully pan my gaze across a room that was screaming chaos. The unwashed dishes and full garbage were two things to expect, but on the table and bulletin board was a blanket of obsession that has covered every inch of my life for the past few days, not leaving any room to spare. Print outs, documents, and pictures laid scattered about, strings of yarn intersecting each other to lead me to other clues. Just the sight makes my brain pound against my skull, and I'm forced to look down at my legs. How long have I had this pair of jogging pants on for?
I feel the sympathetic rub of a tendril on my back and Venom sighs heavily in front of me. "I know it has been difficult, but you can't keep this up."
"But what about Ashle-"
"Ashley will be fine. Hannah is obviously sparing her for a reason, and so long as she sees value in her, Ashley's safety is ensured." I'm still unsure, and still, the alien persists. "Please, Eddie. If not for yourself, then for me and our baby."
