 Eddie's PoV

This little game of chase went on for about two and a half weeks. The girl and I both had things that we were running from, and I think we both just silently agreed to run from them together. Ashley still hadn't told Hannah that she got kicked out of her house, and I still hadn't told her that her woman was a cannibal. We were both a complete wreck, that much was for sure, and I could feel the disdain that Venom felt about the whole situation.

Ashley and I had done all we possibly could to avoid dealing with our issues, and instead spent our time off in la-la-land doing just about everything else. Hitting up bowling alley's, skate rinks, arcades, and eating cheap fast food during the day, and then bull-shitting our way through our jobs during the night. It had felt like an eternity since I had an excuse to go out and do things like this, I could feel myself falling to the freedom of it all. I think that the symbiote could sense it, but that they didn't know what to do about it, and so it left them to silently stew about everything.

I couldn't lie, I did feel bad about putting them through this. I kept on saying that I would just get it over with and tell her tomorrow, but I wake up every morning feeling just as overwhelmed as I did the night prior, and that tomorrow never comes. I knew Vee was trying their hardest to be patient, but they had to draw the line somewhere.

It was a sunny afternoon, and before us was an abandoned dirt road that stretched for miles. The weather was finally starting to let up a little bit, and with the roads safe to drive again, we thought a little race between friends was more than in order. Ashley had her white minivan in one lane, and I had my black mustang in the other lane, both of us staring out at the road in shared excitement.

"You ready to eat dirt, kid?" I taunt, nudging her shoulder. She scoffs.

"You're gonna regret those words when you're crying about the loss later." I laugh at her retaliation, grabbing my keys and starting to make my way to the drivers side of my car, practically trembling with anticipation. It had been such a long time since I had a good race.

"We'll see about that, smart ass!"

"Hey, what do I get when I win?" She calls back as she opens her door. I look back before getting into my car, raising my fist at her.

"A knuckle-sandwich!"

She barks out a laugh, and we both get into our drivers seats, buckling in. The second I start the engine, I feel a wave of anxiety that I knew wasn't my own, and I falter for a moment as Venom perks up to say something.

"This is a bad idea," they warn. I turn the keys, and the engine revs to life, only coaxing me further into the moment.

"We'll be alright, Vee. I used to do this all the time with my buddies back in college. It's nothing but a little harmless fun." I try to reason with them, but all I get is a low grumble in response.

"Doesn't seem safe."

I can't help but to roll my eyes, patting the lower part of my stomach that Venom was always nestled up in, in an attempt to soothe them.

"Just calm down, babe. I checked the roads, it's a beautiful day out, there's not a soul around, and I have experience. We're gonna be fine. And if all the rest of that fails, I know that I always have you." My words seem to offer them a smidge of comfort as I feel them settle back down, but I could tell that they were still skeptical.

I get a second to consider if this really was a good idea or not, and I wait for the alien to say something in protest yet again, thinking that I might actually have a moment of clarity if they did. But they don't, and as I hear Ashley's car roar in challenge from beside me, I knew that there was nothing that could stop me now.
