A month later....It's been a month since the event. And must I say things at the hospital have been pretty chaotic. The Covid-19 breakthrough has taken all over the U.S.
Only places that are open are medical halls, clinics and government banks.
Any other jobs except Medicare care are primarily suspended. The government officials are working from home.
So we really are pushing our buttons here. It's really saddening to watch people's health deteriorate in front of our eyes but we are giving our best.
It's currently 11 PM and I am doing a night shift. I put the coffee beans in the machine to brew and just zone out.
Personally, things have been going smooth except the fact that I've been receiving flowers every day by this anonymous person along with some corny notes. That too my favourite kind, lavender.
Sera's take on it is that I have a secret admirer or I've gotten myself a fan but I think it's just a stalker or a psychopath. I can't find any other reason for this unknown gesture.
I mean I love flowers but giving them to me in this manner makes no sense whatsoever.
The ding sound from the coffee machine ends my little thinking session. taking the coffee cup I head towards my room.
We all have coffee machine, tea pots and snacks arrangement in our cabins but my machine broke down due to excessive use. The irony I find in that is beyond hilarious.
I open my coat, mask, virus shield and lastly gloves. I head towards the basin and splash my face with cold water to keep my nerves awake. I losen my scarf and lie down on the couch.
I close my eyes as I hear a knock on the door. I mutter a come in and stand up to fix my clothes. I see Dr.Ford entering the room with some papers.
"Eliza, this medicine was given to the patient in bed 09 ward 02. Can you see if there's anyway to increase the dosage? Because it's not effecting her."
I nod at him as I see the prescription. She has been provided with dose 0.02.
Therefore if I multiply the dosage with 0.4 and mix it with immune deficiency solution there's a chance it might effect quickly.I tell him the following as he processes the information.
"Dr.Ford how about I inject the solvent while you take a decaf coffee and have a short nap at the lounge?"
he looks way sleep deprived and it will come out to be bad for his health especially when he is in his forties.
He sends me a smile at this.
"Eliza, it's like you read my mind! Thanks for the help."
I bid him goodbye with a smile and put on my apron on and some other stuffs. I swig down the black coffee in one go and head towards the Medicine faculty.
Many juniors greet me as I greet them back with a smile. It's fascinating to see them work overtime as we are severely short staffed right now.
I start to prepare the injection as I gather some solutions and mix them with the saline.
I take the injection and other medicines and put them on a tray as I walk out to the ward. I open the doors as my sandals make a squeaking sound.
I change my sandals to ward's disinfected slippers and enter the ward via second connecting door. I greet the patients who are awake and make my way to bed 09.
The woman is sleeping so I give her a light nudge in the legs to wake her up. She sits up and nods at me.
"Hello Miss Clare, I'll be injecting you with some medicine, hope that's okay?" I ask her with a smile.
"yeah that's fine" still feeling unsure I ask her again "are you sure? If you're feeling too sore I can always come back later?"
She fixes her shirt and give me a reassuring nod and I take this the sign to start my work.
I fold her sleeves up and inject the medicine and than take the rubbing alcohol to gently massage her elbows.
After putting her to sleep I head towards the lounge and decide to take a mini nap before the midnight checkup begins. I set the alarm for 20 minutes and unknowingly doze off.
