ANNA DELANEY

2 WEEKS LATER

"This is not fucking working Damon. Not when you're acting like this."

"You're right. This, whatever the fuck this was. It's done."

"Oh, it so fucking done," I said in the heat of the moment.

"Great," he said before he walked away as adrenaline surged through my body.

2 HOURS BEFORE

"Italy sounds nice for a spring break," Val sipped on her champagne.

"Hmm," I nodded absentmindedly as I kept glancing at Damon.

"Hey. Are you good?"

"Yeah... it's just, we're in that rocky part of our relationship. The part where you don't know if you'll make it through or not and there's been this weird sort of distance too," I tried to sound convincing as I planted the seed.

"Sounds like you need some champagne," she offered me a glass. "But in all seriousness, I've never seen Damon this way with anyone, I'm sure you two will make it through. It'll just take time and patience."

"I hope so," I glanced at Damon again.

He was sitting at the dining table with his father and Nick, probably talking business. I was growing more and more worried about him by the second ever since he told me the truth about everything.

And since this is a "family" dinner, Aiden was invited and sat behind me and Val on the couch, no doubt eavesdropping.

After about an hour of cocktails, dinner, and quick glances at Damon, I was tipsy and joking with Val.

Walking from her room back into the living room, I bumped into a glass vase knocking it down to pieces on the floor.

"Oh gosh. I really hope that wasn't expensive," I bent down to pick up the shattered pieces.

Shit. I didn't think I drank that much.

"No, don't- you're gonna cut yourself."

"Shit-" I held up my palm now gushing full of blood.

"Damon's gonna kill me," Val whispered with wide eyes.

"Pfft," I muttered. "He's all bark and-"

"And what baby?" a deep voice asked as I looked up from my spot on the floor.

"Um... nothing," I cheekily smiled looking up at Damon from my spot on the floor.

Bending down, his eyes conveyed rage while his touch was delicate and caring when he held my bleeding hand in his. Looking up at his sister, he was about to say something, no doubt something rude so I interrupted him.

"Nobody did anything. I just tripped," I explained as he scooped me up and carried me bridal style to the bathroom.

After closing the door, Damon set me down on the counter placing a kiss on my forehead before he got the first aid kit.

"I remember doing this same exact thing for you," I whispered as he washed my hand with water.

"And I remember telling you to find a way to sneak off, not hurt yourself Anna."

"I was going to sneak off but I had too much to drink and this gives us more time before we go through with this."

"If you have any doubts or if you feel you are in any danger, I want you to walk in the opposite direction baby. If anything happens to you-"

"We're going to be fine," I smiled as he wrapped the band-aid around my hand.

"Be safe," he leaned his forehead against mine.

"I will. You too," I whispered before our mouths collided one last time conveying everything we felt about each other. The fact that we didn't want to leave each other and play out this plan we built created.

We were an addiction, almost an obsession but we knew what needed to be done and I wouldn't let Aiden walk free with all his glory before he got to pay for his actions.

***

"Are you fucking kidding me? I tripped by accident and the vase slipped. How could you possibly blame that on me?" I yelled.

"It's two hundred thousand fucking dollars Anna. Of course, you wouldn't know that though."

"What's that supposed to mean?"

"You know what it fucking means. You're too broke to understand the meaning of actual fucking money. That's probably why you are here with me right now," he yelled as I tried not to let his words sting.

This wasn't real. I knew that but the words coming out of his mouth sounded pretty convincing.

"Fuck you," I yelled so the entire party could hear us.

"You already did that and probably the rest of the CEO's in New York."

"This is not fucking working Damon. Not when you're acting like this."

"You're right. This, whatever the fuck this was. It's done."

"Good."

"Great," he walked away letting adrenaline surge through my body.

I quickly grabbed my purse making sure to bump into Aiden on my way out.

"I am so sorry," I grabbed his arm as I steadied myself. "I'm just a mess today, I guess."

"Aren't we all," he smiled.

I tried not to smile at his stupidity as I walked past him and out of the house.

And just like that, our plan was in motion.
