Anna Delaney

"Alphabetical and not numerical order," the jerk ordered and handed me the files he needed to me to organize. I put on a fake smile and left his office pissed off with how this man was nit picking every thing I did for the past month.

On top of that, there were hundreds of other tasks that I needed to complete. Despite coming in early and staying late, I could never get ahead as the jerk kept piling more work on me.

I was cooped up in my office for the majority of the day to organize all his files in alphabetical order like he requested. After doing so, I completed his schedule for the next week and booked some tickets for his upcoming business trip. When I was finally done, I went over to the jerk's office and knocked.

"Everything is done for the day. All the files are in alphabetical order, your schedule is made up, the documents are laminated and ready for signing for tomorrow," I said confidently.

"I want it in numerical order," he stated coldly.

"What?"

"Are you deaf? I said numerical order," he said as he got up from his chair and moved closer to me. Every step he took forward, I took one back. Eventually, I backed up and hit the wall. His left palm pressed against the wall directly next to my head.

"But um- you said alphabetical order," I stuttered feeling a bit nervous. I am usually strong-minded but being in the presence of Damon makes me feel like melted snow.

"Well I changed my mind."

I was furious with this man, he may be one of the richest men in the world but who does he think he is? "How about you make up your mind before you waste my time," I blurted out without thinking. My jaw dropped as I realized what I just said, I opened my mouth to say sorry but Mr. King spoke before I could.

He smirked and leaned into my ear where I could feel his minty breath on my neck and whispered, "You are mine. I can do anything with you as I please Anna."

I gasped but I was not going to let him win this fight. He may be my boss but he sure as hell can not treat me like property. I straightened up and whispered, "You can call me Miss. Delaney," and walked out of his office. I have no idea what his intentions were but he had me breathing hard and thinking about him in all the wrong ways. Infuriation ran through my veins because Damon is- he is one of the most ... I don't even know how to describe him at this point. All I know is that I see red when I look at the man.

When I got to my desk, I found 10 missed calls from Nat and Brielle. I texted them and let them know I was going to have another late night again, they weren't happy but they understood. I truly felt bad, I have to treat them out to a fun night one day. It was ten at night and there was no one else left in the office, only me and Mr. King.

I was curious when there was an appointment for Mr. King to meet with someone at this time but I escorted a man by the name of Chris to the office and ignored my growing curiosity. The man was sweating profusely and I wondered why but, again, I pushed away my thoughts and escorted the kind man to Mr. King's office.

Once I had dinner for Mr. King, I knocked on his office door but didn't hear him so I figured he was somewhere in the building doing God knows what.  Maybe with that Diana women? Why not just leave the dinner on his desk? That was wishful thinking because when I walked into his office, there was a bloodied Chris on the floor and a fuming Damon hovering above him with bruised hands.

"Get out of my sight," Damon said to Chris. Chris scurried out of the room holding his broken hand. I have no clue what happened to this man but he seemed to have pissed off the wrong person.

"Close the fucking door Anna," Damon said walking over to sit down in his chair behind his desk.

I went to close the door and then stood in front of Damon waiting for him to say something, anything, but he didn't.  I took into account his hand and grabbed a rag and a water bottle. I got on my two knees and held out my hand so he could place his bruised hand in mine. I placed the rag over his knuckles where the blood was slowly washing away. He looked at me with his eyebrows in a v shape. Was he confused why I was helping him? Was he judging me?

I couldn't keep guessing so I blurted it out, "What?"

"Why are you helping me?"

"Because you are hurt."

"But why me?" he asked leaning in closer to my face.

"It doesn't matter who you are. I would help anybody if they were hurt."

"So I was right."

"About what?" I asked, keeping my eyes trained on his hands as his eyes were trained on me.

He leaned down and whispered into my ear, "I was right about how fucking pathetic you are."

"What happened to you to make you the man you are today?" I asked meeting his brown eyes. After some silence, I continued, "What made you so cold-hearted and blocked off? Was it mommy issues? Daddy issues? We all have them Damon. Some of us toughen up and face these problems and some cower behind being feared like you."

"Watch your mouth or I will-"

"Or what? You will beat me to a pulp like Chris?"

"Anna, watch your fucking mouth before-"

"I think I understand you now. You have built a reputation on being ruthless and now you want everyone to fear you. But why would you possibly want that?" I asked confused as I started unraveling who Damon King really is underneath his cold expression.

In a sudden bolt, he got up from his chair, pulled me from my knees to stand up, and pushed me against the wall with his hand wrapped around my throat. "I give you my word that I will fucking break you Anna. Whatever it takes, I will make your life a living hell."

"I'm not scared of you Damon."

"
