Nick led me down the halls, his hand gripping mine tightly as we winded through crowds of people. Straight ahead stood two large doors, their height looming over me as I stared up at them. We stopped before the giant wooden doors, Nick's fingers wrapping around the gigantic brass handle. The door creaked open when he pulled. Chatter filled the entire room, that is, until we stepped in. All eyes were on us, an eery silence filling the room. People whispered at their tables. As Nick lead me through the cafeteria, I overheard some of the words people were saying.
"I heard she's an elemental. Some people think she's the avatar's daughter!" One girl said. A few others were commenting on Nick's hand in mine. Apparently Nick was pretty popular around here.
I was snapped out of my thoughts when Nick squeezed my hand. My eyes shot up to meet his, a waiting look on his face. "What?" I asked, having not realized he was talking to me.
"What would you like to eat?" He questioned, a small smirk reaching his lips. I turned to look forward, a large menu board hanging on the wall. I scanned through each item, considering my options. It wasn't until my eyes read the very last option that I knew exactly what I wanted.
"Could I get a garden salad, with apple slices and apple juice, please?" I murmured, my eyes staring at the ground. To be honest, I loved apples. I would eat them all of the time, along with anything made of them. Apple juice, apple sauce, apple pie, you name it. Nick gave me a funny look before ordering for me. My eyes continued to stare at the floor while he pulled me along.
We remained silent the entire time, all the way until he sat me down at a table. "What's wrong?" He asked, voice coated with worry. I just shook my head while picking up my fork, taking a small bite of the salad. "Come on, Lux. It's obvious something is wrong. You can tell me." He tried, his hand squeazing mine in a comfoting manner.
"It's nothing, really. I'm just not used to this place yet." I muttered, another bite of salad making its way into my mouth. I saw him nod slightly before biting into his burger. It was obvious that he didn't believe my words, but he remained silent. Looking up from my food, I took my time to take in my surroundings. The room was full of people, not a single person like the other. Everybody was sitting in groups, all laughing and talking. What caught my eye, though, was one table straight across the room. About five or six people sat there, all laughing as they took turns levitating objects using strange hand motions.
That was when I realized that each and every table was doing something. Each table had people of different powers. At one table people were playing with rubix cubes at top speed. At another, three girls were extending their limbs to great lengths. Seeing all this made me feel the need to try out my powers. Without thinking, I stood up and ran to the counter, asking for a water. When the lady handed me the plastic bottle, I ran back to the table. Nick watched me with curious eyes.
I poured a small puddle of water onto the table before setting the bottle aside. Thinking hard, I stared at the small puddle. Nothing happened. I tried again, only getting the same outcome. Sticking my hand out in front of me, my palm facing the cieling, I slowly rose it, as if it were an elevator. The puddle soon became a floating ball of liquid, following the movement of my hand. I watched in awe as the room fell silent once again.
"What are you doing! You're not supposed to do that until training!" Nick whispered harshly at me. Turning to look at him, I got an idea. With a smirk on my lips, I pushed the palm of my hand in Nick's direction, sending the water straight towards him. It splashed all over his face. I let out a loud laugh as I watched his face go from shock, to anger, to confusion. "Lux, you better be a fast runner." He warned. Giggling, I jumped up and ran out of the room. I could tell that he was close behind me, his pounding footsteps echoing my own. He chased me all the way down the main hall and outside, laughing whenever he got closer. Once in the middle of the field, he stopped. I froze a few meters across from him. His arms moved in swift movements, flames engulfing his hands. I created a ball of water, this time the liquid appearing out of nowhere. I had done some hand movements, as well, although I didn't know where I learned them from, it made me reach my goal. Nick launched the flames in my direction. Unfortuanately for him, I qucikly drowned the fireball in water. Once again he created fire, waiting for me to make a move.
