(RK's POV)
I randomly woke up in the middle of the night. I looked at my watch. It was 3 a.m. I looked around. Madhu was sleeping soundly on my chest. I tried to get up but I didn't want her to wake up. The breeze blew the loose stands of hair over her delicate face. I used my thumb and moved them away. She moved around in her sleep. I returned to my earlier position. She huddled in closer to me.
"RK........" She murmured. I was confused on if I should respond.
"Yes Madhu?" I said.
"Mmmmmm.......why did life do this to me?"
"Do what?"
"Why did it take my happiness from me?" She said.
I couldn't answer that question. She had dozed off again by the time I thought of something to say.
(Madhu's POV)
The sun shined right on my face. It was blinding. I tried to get up, but I had a massive headache. My hand instantly went up to grip my head. I looked around. I was in a small cottage, which was surrounded by hay. I looked down, seeing RK sound asleep. I gasped. What was I doing last night? I couldn't remember. Everything was blurry. The last thing I remembered was drinking that strange drink last night. What it was, I didn't know. RK moved his arms and rubbed his eyes. I turned away.
"What happened to me RK?"
"What do you mean?" He said, still getting used to the morning. He paused as reality dawned upon him.
"Ohhhhh. You got drunk off of vodka last night. My secret stash of vodka. You went loopy after that."
"Who keeps a secret stash of vodka in their car?!"
"I do. And it looks like water, so I can drink it without getting in trouble."
"You disgust me sometimes." I said coldly, due to my headache.
"Thank you for the compliment." He smirked.
I ventured outside and saw the car in the distance. I wanted to get home before I killed him with my bare hands. RK followed behind me, still smirking. I tried my best to ignore him.
"Madhu slow down. I'm not going to eat you." He yelled.
I blocked his words from my mind and quickened my pace. My foot hit a large rock and I fell forward. But I didn't hit the rock. RK caught me.
"Are you sure you are sober? Because I sure don't."
"I am completely sober and sane. And no need to get close to me." I snapped.
He helped me up anyways and let go of me.
"Fine. I won't get close to you. I won't try to help you. And you don't deserve to be helped. You know why, because you won't let anyone help you."
"What are you trying to say RK?"
"You know exactly what I am saying. You were murmuring in your sleep last night. That life has taken all your happiness away from you. Life didn't take it from you, you pushed it away yourself." He yelled.
"Who are you to interfere in my life?"
"Maybe no one right now. But soon someone."
I stayed silent after he worded that sentence. Tears formed in my eyes, then dripped down second after second. I ran off towards that car and cried my eyes out.
"Madhu!.....Madhu! Please listen! I'm sorry!"
(RK's POV)
Shit! Shit RK! I mentally slapped myself for saying all that to her. Now she was crying because of me. She was right......who was I to interfere in her life. No one. No one but a fake boyfriend. I slammed my fist into the nearby tree. I shouldn't have made her cry. I needed to apologize....
She was sitting in the back of the car, staring out the window. The mechanic showed up and fixed the car in no time flat. I got into the drivers seat and drove to Madhu's place. I took a peek in the rear view mirror a couple time. She was still staring out of the window. I felt guilty inside, something I haven't felt for a long time now. I soon pulled up in front of her house. She got out and walked away like a ghost, not saying a word.
The ride home was long. My mind was only on Madhu. Why was I thinking about her so much? I always lost interest in a certain girl after a period of time. She was the first one who I thought of all the time. I was confused about my own self.
"You have gone crazy RK." I said to myself.
I tried to think positive. My mind went on to my sister, Anushka. She was coming back from Delhi today. She had finished her course on fashion designing recently. I was excited to see her. She was my only but favorite sister. She was like my life.
Bittuji was waiting outside for me, pacing back and forth. He tapped his phone on his palm repeatedly, a gesture he usually does when something is wrong.
"Bittuji, what happened?"
"Chief, your sister...." My eyes grew wide.
"What!? What happened to Anu?"
He stared at me in tension. I shook him violently. He still didn't answer.
"WHAT?!" I yelled. I was ready to punch him.
"Chief....you come see for yourself. I don't have the courage to tell you myself."
"Take me to her now!"
"Yyyes chief."
We got into the car and I sped out of the driveway. Bittuji told me the directions as we moved along. I soon realized that this was the way to City Hospital.
