𝕿HE HORROR IN HER EYES, the grip in her hair, the whispering in her ear, the abuse she endured and witnessed; she could never forget any of it. And what she was forced to do right afterwards, would taunt her in her dreams every night.

The worse of it all was that it could have been avoided. If only she didn't have a stubborn best friend. If only she wasn't afraid to stand up for herself. Now she was alone, without the one person she really cared for, the one who'd protect her from his snobby sister, the one who understood her and the isolation.

Just one decision changed it all.

It was a normal and beautiful day on the Palace grounds of the Fire Nation. The sun was it's highest peak, the weather was just right; not too hot or too windy, the grass was a beautiful shade of bright green, the duck pond was glimmering from the reflection of the sun.

Ryn often found herself laying on the grass by the duck pond under the shade of a tree nearby. Or she'd lean against the tree. She'd read a book, or meditate, but either or — she was always by the duck pond. The little creatures swimming about, squeaking to each other, the soft wind blowing through the branches above her and through her beautifully long dark hair — it all calmed her, let her escape from the cruel world around her. Maybe that was too harsh for just a thirteen-year-old to think, but Ryn was well adjusted to the world around her. Perhaps it was growing up in the Fire Nation that forced this mind set on the young girl, but Ryn quickly learned the world is cruel and never fair.

On this particular day, Ryn was laying down under the tree, by the duck pond, reading. The one she was reading — though cheesy — was a love story. This particular book was about two star crossed lovers, born on two different sides of a war. They absolutely hate each other, but also hated that everyone tells them that they can't love each other. His mother was killed by her king, but her king also killed her best friend. They both had reasons to hate both sides of the war, and found themselves getting lost in each other instead.

Ryn felt calm and content reading her book, made her forget her own reality. But that all crumbled away when someone yanked the book from her hands. "Hey!" Ryn looked to see it was the one and only Princess Azula. Suddenly tensed of her presence, Ryn swiftly got to her feet, dusting any dirt off of her. She didn't care to fix her hair since all she could think about was being respectful towards the Princess.

Of course, Azula thought it was absolutely pathetic, but she wasn't going to nit pick — not about her hair at least. That wouldn't stop her two groupies from saying something though.

Mai and Ty Lee.

Oh, how Ryn hated these two. They just followed Azula around like lost puppies, and if she could, Ryn might even call them pathetic. They'd always make unnecessary comments, and make Ryn feel weak and useless. But Ryn couldn't say anything back because they were Azula's friends. So she was just their puppet to toy with. Which irritated Ryn to her core since she was much older than the three.
