Breaks & Spaces Between
Sadie's POV
========Sadie picked herself up from the wood floors. Bright sunlight cascaded across her face and she shielded her eyes to protect them. She thought she heard the sound of rain, realizing someone is fiercely tapping at the front door.
--------------------
I jump to my feet, and fall back onto my bed. Woah, that was a rush. What the hell os going on, and had I slept on the floor all night. I stretch my back, hearing the cracks and kinks work themselves out. "Hold you horses, I'm coming. Sheesh."I half walk half run my way down the stairs and grab ahold of the doorknob and freeze. Flashes of last night begin to rush back into my head and everything gets dizzy again. "Bamm Bamm Bamm." The next fury of tabs snap me out of it and I rip the door open.
"Heyyy, why are you bang the damn doo.." I stop when a pair of lips crash onto mine. Arms wrap around my waist and I'm hoisted up into the air. Carried back into the house and the door shuts behind us.
I pull back to catch my breathe. "Keira? What the hell are you doing? What are you doing here?" I self-consciously swipe my mouth with the back of my hand.
"Honey, I missed you." She stepped closer and wrapped both hands around my face. "I was worried about you. Can't I check it on you? I called and you didn't answer."
Before I could speak, my phone vibrated in my back pocket. "Just... gimme a sec." I run my hand over my face and through my hair. It's too early for this and I need coffee, now. Keira's footsteps fall into mine, and I knew I wouldn't be getting rid of her that easy.
I turn on the coffee maker and lean back against the marble counter top. "Whyyy.. Why do I have sooo many notifications?" I whisper aloud. I scroll rhrough several missed calls from Dad. He rarely gets a chance to call, and when he finally does, I'm MIA. Great job Sadie, daughter of freaking the year!
Keira steps around the kitchen island and leans against it; directly in front of me but I don't look up. "Sadie, get serious. You've been MIA for 2 days now!"
"Two days, whaa. Shut up." I smile at her and flip back the curl that had fallen into my face.
Most of the texts where from Keria. A bunch from Dad, and some pretty concerned voice-mails from Sandy. I place my phone on the counter and pour myself a cup of coffee. Hugging the mug, I am finally willing to pay attention to the woman standing patiently in my kitchen.
"I was pretty scared Hunny Bunnie. First you shew me away from the store. Then, doesn't invite me over later that night. Now, disappearing act for the entire next day. Honestly. What am I supposed to think. Either you've kicked me to the curb or you're dead." She throws her arms into the air. "I'm not even sure which of the two is worse."
I chose not to respond to her last comment; blinking it away. "I'm fine, thanks. I got spooked the other night. It was nothing serious. Probably just kids messing around late at night."
Keira didn't respond.
"Don't worry about me. I keep telling you all that I can take care of myself. I don't need protecting... like some.. some child." I try hard to keep the frustration I felt inside from seeping into my words. I wasn't upset with her, only her actions.
"Look, babe. I just think we need some time apart. And, now that you can see. I am not dead. You may carry on." I grab her shoulders and point her towards the front door.
