ADELAIDE

Aislinn had always taught me that when you want to forget something, get to work. Work so hard that you don’t even have to think about it, work so hard that your body goes to autopilot.
So that is exactly what I am doing.
Though I think that I might be doing it wrong.

If I need to keep my mind away from Newt, I shouldn’t be thinking about how to save him, about the Cure, right?

I fumble with Chuck’s bracelet while Teresa works on my sensors.

But that is fucking impossible!

“These sensors...” I try to start a civil conversation with her. “Have they always been in us?”
“If you’re asking what I think you’re asking, then yes, it was operated on us when we were about six years old. For you, it might be earlier.”

“It’s still on you?”

She hesitates before answering with a no.

Of course, WICKED’s pet.

“I know that you won’t understand, but I’m doing all this for a cure. To save the humanity.” Teresa whispers to me as her fingers keep on working. “ I’ve seen people die. Complete strangers had sacrificed themselves so that I, the Immune, reach a safe place where my boon could be used to save the humanity. I’ve seen things from ground zero, the first wave of Flare Virus.

“WICKED might seems inhumane but all they want is to help people survive. So, if we can save millions, shouldn’t we? Is it too much to ask?”

I furrow my eyebrows and slowly turn my neck to look at her over my shoulder. “Have I volunteered to cut and tear my body since I was six? Have I volunteered to be brainwashed and forced to kill people and even kids? Have any of us volunteered to give up our lives?”

Teresa looks at me with furrowed eyebrows.

“Do think about what you’re going to say to me, because I have my memories back.”  I don’t have a lot of my memories back. But how can she know?

To my confusion, Teresa smiles. She leans towards me, her lips lightly brushing over my ear. “Darling, trust me, I know how much you know. If you would have remembered everything that had happened, then you would’ve killed me the first time you set your eyes on me.”

a/n:
a super short filler for a long ass chapter next.

Is there anyone here who can guess what exactly Teresa had done; so much so that she knows that Adelaide will kill her if she knows?

I have not met many people who have read the other books in the tmr series. It is mostly that people have read the first three only.
