ADELAIDE

My brain stutters for a moment and my eyes take in more light than I expected, every part of me goes on pause while my thoughts catch up. After a wash of cold, my knees finally go weak as I catch myself before I stumble back.

"Gally?" Thomas' voice is tensed and strained.

"No freaking way." Frypan whispers.

Before I can even comprehend what was happening, Thomas surges forward and punches Gally across his jaw, sending him spiraling on the ground.

"No! Wait! Stop! It's all right!" Gally raises his arm to his men, who had already trained their guns at Thomas, ready to shoot him.

Thomas grabs Gally's shirt in a fist and rears his hand back to deliver another punch, Newt rushes to the brunet, pulling his fist back.

"Tommy! Stop!" Newt pulls Thomas' hand back.

"He killed Chuck." His voice trembles with barely controlled anger, his whiskey eyes filled with unshed tears.

"I know, I know but I also know that he was stung and half out of his mind."

Newt glances at the men around him. "Put you guns down! It's all right."

Thomas stands up and pushes Newt's hand back and steps away, his disgusted eyes trained on Gally. Gally stands up and rubs his chin, where Thomas had slugged him.

"Kind of had that coming." He mutters. "Well, anyone else? Fry? Newt?" His eyes settles on me. "Ally?"

You killed my brother.

"Will the rest of us know what the hell is going on?" Aislinn motions to herself, Fiona, Bea, Brenda and Jorge.

"He's an old friend." Frypan whispers, his eyes still on Gally.

Was. He was an old friend. Past tense.

"But.. we watched you die." Newt speaks up.

"No, you left me to die." Gally retorts. "If they didn't find me, I would have been dead. And today, if we didn't find you when we dead, you would have been dead."

He stops and looks at us. "What the hell are you doing here?"

"WICKED took Minho a year ago. We've got an intel that he's been kept here. So, we've come to get him." Newt runs his fingers through his hair.

"I can help you with that. Follow me." Gally turns and after a slight hesitation, everyone follows him.

I look at Thomas who is still glued to his spot. His eyes meet mine and I know that we both are thinking the same thing.

"I can't trust him." I mouth to him.

"Me too." He mouths back. " We're not going anywhere with you." He speaks up, his voice acid.

Gally turns back and let's out a breathy chuckle on seeing us, shaking his head. "You can stay here all you want. But I can take you through those walls."

Damn it.

🗡️🏹🗡️

"So, bother to give us a summarized version of you journey from Maze to here?" I say, as I force myself to walk beside Gally and not kill him on the spot.

Gally looks at me and raises his eyebrows. "Hey, no need to use that tone, okay?"

I grit my teeth, but put on a fake, welcoming smile and nod at the boy. Gally sighs. "Look, after the Maze, they found me. When they found that I was an Immune, they patched me up and got me here, at Lawrence's. He and his group has been in a fight against WICKED, ever since they took control of the city. But they can't hide behind those walls anymore. We will get them out of their hiding holes and win our city back."

I roll my eyes. "Nice, long, patronizing speech, big guy. Does each one of you here have that all memorized?"

Gally squints at me. "You have changed, Ally." He says like he's disappointed.

"Yeah. Deaths changes the best of people."

He nods, a wave of guilt etches on his face. "For the longest of time, I thought that you were taken by the WICKED and were being experimented upon. I am exactly not living the best of lives, but at least I am free. That is what made me work harder towards achieving the goal. To free you all."

He chuckles. "But it seems that you all didn't need my help."

I imitate his chuckle. Gally again turns towards me and flashes me a small, soft smile.

"What?" I ask.

"I thought you of all people would hate me. You would have wanted to kill me. I doubted Greenie's reaction, when he saw me." He jabs his thumb over his shoulder at Thomas. "But I thought that you would definitely be the one to land a punch on me."

I look up at him and throw a fake smile, grinding my teeth so hard that I am sure that by now it must be cracked. I take a step close to him connect my knees with his groin.

Multiple gasps echo the room as Gally cries out in pain, his hand clutching his area. From the corner of my eyes, I see Fiona snort. Gally screws his eyes shut and drops down on his knees, groaning in pain.

"What the hell, Ally?!" he screams at me.

Feeling an odd calm wash over me, I bend near his ear speak clearly. "You've made me go through hell, Gally. You might be not in the right mind when it happened, but it will always be you who pulled the trigger."

I roughly push him away and walk over him. "And stop crying like a baby for god's sake. That was one of my weakest attacks!"
