Day two and I'm already considering mitching all of my lessons. Why do the girls seem to enjoy school so much? They always look so happy, and I know neither of them would ever ditch class. Well, maybe there's one reason, but that's hopefully never going to happen. Axel's still not here, but I think I could make a good guess as to where he is. Although, he's never this late. The bell rang loudly in our ears and the girls looked at each other, then me, with confused looks on their faces. I shrugged my shoulders. Then, Miss Jackson, our new maths teacher walked in. She's so much better than Mrs Winson in every way possible, especially when it comes to looks. Mrs Winson was old, but Miss Jackson is young and beautiful. Now, when I say young, I mean like 20. That means she's only 3 or 4 years older than me, which I find insane, but not unbelievable. She has deep, blue eyes, sandy blonde hair and slightly bronze skin decorated with small freckles. Really, it's a shame she's my teacher. Suddenly, I was snapped back into reality by the call of my name on the register. "Here." I cringed at the bewilderment in my voice.
Miss Jackson handed out sheets that we were expected to complete, but I couldn't take my mind away from the fact that Axel wasn't here. What if he's in some sort of trouble and is waiting for us to save him? What if he's doing something fun without us? What if he was abducted by aliens? Okay, that last one might be slightly unrealistic, but the point is that Axel isn't here and none of us have heard from him since yesterday. Frankly, that's kind of worrying. I just need to know if he's safe. Quickly, my hand shot into the air. "Yes, Aiden?" Miss Jackson said in her usual, bubbly tone.
"May I use the bathroom?"
"Of course!" she smiled. I took my bag to the bathroom with me, being careful in order to make sure no one noticed. Through the glass on the classroom door, I saw Avery pulling an annoyed face at me.As soon as I reached the bathroom, I pulled my phone out from my back pocket.
Axel
Where r u? School started 20 mins ago.
Hello?
Axel?
Answer ur phone!
Actually, thanks for giving me an excuse.
I owe u.
See u in 10.
Delivered***
It's not like Axel not to answer his phone; he's practically glued to that thing. At least now I have an excuse to leave this hellhole.
Spots of rain spat on my blazer and wind blew in my face fiercely, burning my skin as I sprinted through the streets. Houses stood tall in long rows, menacingly judging everything that passed them. The stunning sky had been painted over with a dark shade of grey that lingered above the entire town. The roads were damp and puddles glimmered whenever they got caught in the little light there was. Roaring sounds of car engines whizzed around me and the smell of a cooking breakfast seeped from the cracks in the doors and windows. After what felt like running for centuries, I reached Axel's flat. Pressing the buzzer repeatedly, I stood in the pouring rain. Minutes upon minutes had passed before I gave up. I wasn't going to go back to school and I couldn't go home, so that only left one place: Tilly's.
