"AXEL!" I called for him until my lungs couldn't anymore. "Come on, you've got to be around here somewhere." I whispered to myself. As I was about to begin calling for him again, I heard a faint crying. I scrambled over to the bush and there, I found him. He looked so small, so fragile. "I'm so sorry: for everything." Tears began to speed down my cheeks. I placed my fingers beneath his chin, gently forcing his head up so he would look me in the eye. "I can't lose you. Not now, not ever. I'm so sorry for what I did in Tilly's, and I'm sorry for everything that happened in Amaya's house. I was way out of line and you don't deserve any of this, and I hope you know I support you no matter what and I'm always going to be your best friend, okay? Axel, Axel please say something." We sat in complete silence. Suddenly, he threw his arms around me. "Thank you." His voice was shaky and quiet.
Buzz. Buzz. Buzz.
I slowly reached for my phone. Displayed on the screen was the message I had feared. I read it aloud, so Axel could hear:
"Ooh, finally! You're making a start! This is getting slightly boring, so why don't we add a bit of spice to our game, huh? Here's a hint for you:
You've been here before,
I even remember what you wore.
Avery, this is where you made me a wreck,
Now you've put the noose 'round your own neck.Come get me, Aces.
-Joker"These notifications were becoming the worst part of my day, and they were constant. "We have to go back to Amaya's — now." Axel ordered.
