"Sadie! Oh my God, you're alive!" Tears of joy and relief streamed down my face.
"I'm so glad you're here."
"We have to go. We have to find the others and get you out of here. You're going home. We're going home." I smiled. I untied her and she stood up, but cried out in pain. "I can't walk."
"Did she hurt you?"
"Have you seen my face?" Only then did I notice the cuts and bruises all over her face. I gave her my arm and helped her walk along the corridors. We had only taken a few steps before we heard the sound of rushing footsteps. The panic soon stopped when I caught a glimpse of black and red hair. "Axel!" I yelled. "We're here." As he reached us, more hurried footsteps came, this time from our left." I never thought I'd find the sight of my brother so comforting. He rushed towards me, pulling me into a tight hug. "Are you okay? I heard a scream, and I"
"I'm fine, it was Sadie."
"Oh, hey." He said, looking her up and down. I slapped his arm as a warning.
"Guys... where's Amaya?" Before anyone could answer my question, yet another set of footsteps began to get closer to us. "Amaya!" I turned around in relief. But when I looked to where the footsteps were coming from, Amaya wasn't standing there. In her place was Scarlet. "Get out of here, Aces." She shouted.
"Not without Amaya." I demanded.
"I'm sure she'll catch you up."
"We're not leaving until she's with us." Axel's tone was firm.
"Go." Scarlet fought back.
"Yeah, we should go." Aiden said.
"Are you insane? We're not leaving her behind!" I said, shocked.
"No, look." Behind us was a raging fire. Red and orange flames danced with anger. "RUN!" I exclaimed. Thick smoke began to cloud our vision, but we pushed through. "Come on Sadie, a few more steps and we're out. Then you can rest." I encouraged. She wept in agony, but I wouldn't let her stop.We finally reached the safety of the outdoors, gasping for the fresh, damp, night air. Coughs and splutters came from everyone. "We have to get Sadie help." Aiden instructed.
"What about Amaya?" I asked, worried.
"Avery, she's a smart, strong girl. She'll find us." Axel reassured me. Reluctantly, I agreed to take Sadie to help. Before we left, I took one look back at the house that was engulfed in flames, swearing I could hear her calling my name. "Come on, Amaya. You can do this. I need you." I whispered.
