At the end of the next school day, there was an unusual amount of fog that was surrounding the school gate, James sat down under a tree to watch the match but was wondering where the other team was.
That's when they came, bright headlights appeared through the fog and a large vehicle parked itself right outside the gates. A red carpet was thrown in front of the vehicle and those in uniform marched out and stood by it, as players started walking out.
"I already dislike this team, they have this arrogance around them. Even if they are the best team in the country, they're not royalty." James mumbled.
"I'm Raimon's captain, Endou Mamoru!" Endou said as he ran up to the boy with the cape as soon as his team entered the pitch, putting his hand out for a handshake but the caped-boy turned his head.
"This is our first time on a pitch such as this." He started, "do you mind if he have a practice?"
"Sure." Endou nodded, retracting his hand.
The opposition players then started to warm up in what seemed to be a showing off session rather than an actual warm up.
They just want to intimidate the Raimon players don't they? James thought with a sigh, before looking at the Raimon team on the side, but it's working for some of the Raimon players.....
They ended their exhibition when the guy with the cape clicked and the ball was kicked into the air, he then shot the ball in Endou's direction and he stopped the ball, though his gloves were now black from the friction as he looked at the smirking captain in awe.
"Wow, so this is the level of the top school in the country...." Kazemaru said.
Kazemaru!? James noticed, did he quit athletics to help the team? That's nice of him, but I do hope he rejoins; I've heard that he's the fastest in the school and I would like to put that claim to bed.
James then saw a girl with green hair running towards Endou with a boy with glasses and a big smirk on his face right behind her, "Endou! Megane has agreed to join the club!"
"Nice to meet you!" Endou smiled as he put out his hand for a handshake which Megane declined by looking around at everyone on the team.
"Looks like I really am the last person." Megane smirked, "but I have one condition - I must wear the number ten shirt!"
"We're better off without him." Some of the team complained.
"Agreed Megane!" Endou grinned, which was a shock to everyone.
"Excellent choice." Megane gloated, "with me by your side, you're sure to win."
"Wait, Kabeyama isn't here." Endou realised.
"We can't keep our team waiting!" A man with a scruffy beard and glasses said nervously.
"Then we'll just have to find him! We'll have him back soon Fuyukai!"
Where are they off to now? James sighed, this team seems finished.
When they finally found Kabeyama, the match began but it was clear that Raimon were no threat to Teikoku. Midway into the second half it was already 18-0.
Teikoku were now just aiming for the players, and Endou in particular. Every player was down, except Megane, who looked around nervously and ran away, taking the shirt off and dropping it near where James was sitting.
Well that was to be expected, James thought as he began to stare at the shirt.
Not that Megane was important, but now Teikoku was using their one man advantage to its fullest and soon enough it was 20-0, but it was clear that Endou wouldn't give up, an attribute that lit a fire under James, Maybe I should join-
