Bucky Barnes' Heartsong

Unthinkable

Lyra held the sweet little bundle and Bucky tried to comfort them both as everyone came into the small birthing room. Sam was at the door Peter, Kate, and Clint just outside of it. 

"How many are there?" Bucky asked Sam.

"I've taken out at least a dozen."

"Same" everyone else said in unison. 

"But I saw more outside. Why is this power broker willing to risk the Avengers taking them out just to take your child? I mean your serum is strong no doubt but all this?" Clint asked in disbelief.

"You didn't tell them?" Lyra asked as she cooed the baby. 

"No I felt it wasn't my place to tell them. When they met you, you could introduce yourself." He kissed her head and gently patted his child's.

"I'm sorry everyone I though you all knew. I'm Steve's Granddaughter. I have his serum in my blood. So this child has both serums. Bucky and Steve's"

Everyone was silent, shocked. Only a few knew that Steve had gone back and stayed with Peggy, even fewer knew he had children. It was for their safety as well as his privacy. 

"Well shit I knew he was gone but I didn't know where. Damn old man went and had a full life huh? " Clint said. 

"Yeah, I guess so. There is so much more to the story but now is not the time." Lyra said as they all heard a crash down the hall. 

"They're coming everyone fan out and don't let them near this room." Sam ordered.

"So do we get to know who we are protecting? What is the baby's name?" Peter asked trying to lighten the situation.

"Oh sorry" Lyra and Bucky said in unison. They looked at each other both knowing the answer in their hearts. They had discussed it before whether it was a boy or a girl.

Bucky answered Peter: "Her name is Sarah, Sarah Rebecca Barnes. After Steve's mother, Sam's sister, and my sister." He smiled proudly.

"Well hi Sarah!" Sam said as he waved at the baby "Why not Samantha" he mumbled but laughed. 

"Because Sam you're Sam enough for us all." Clint said with a laugh. Just has he shot an arrow out the window down the hall from the small birth room. It exploded when it hit a figure climbing up a rope. "I think we should move the family into the training area. It's more secure. Banner is it safe to move mom and baby?"

"Yes, Lyra is almost fully recovered and the drug I gave her should have left her system by now. Lyra can you stand?" He and Bucky helped her to her feet. She was still in her gown holding Sarah in her arms tightly as the baby looked around at the chaos. 

"Yes I feel, pretty normal.  Man I love the super soldier stuff."

"This is the one time I'm thankful for it too" Bucky said as he took the baby from her so she could grab her clothes and they could head to the training room. 

Kate, Clint, Banner and Peter worked to keep all the assailants back as Bucky holding Sarah, Sam, and Lyra ran for the training room.

"Kate watch your six" Clint yelled as he shot another arrow at a group of armed men coming out of the stairwell.

Kate quickly spun around and fired her own arrow out the window and at woman trying to climb in through it.

"I got it" She yelled back.

"Guys, I think they are almost out of people." Peter said into the comms. He was outside swinging around knocking people out left and right. He had caught a few hits but for the most part he was unharmed. Thank goodness for his spidey sense. "I don't see anymore around and the ones that I hit are getting up and walking away.
