"What do you mean by that?" guess I hit her hard, cause she wasn't expecting that.
"I mean I'm not gonna participate in this competition or whatever," I blunt.
Some students start murmuring. My eyes meet Morgan who seems to have been staring at me for a while.
I turn to him and lower my head.
"What??" I whisper, with my hands open on my desk.Mrs. Huston sighs. "okay. Lucian, Tracy, brook, and Daniel, the four of you make one group. And brook is the head," she says.
"While veronica, Xavier, Morgan, and Sammy, you make the other group. That's if you change your mind, Sam." She adds, and I scowl at her.
"And if you do, you are the head of your group."Wow, isn't she full of surprises?
I ain't gonna do it.She tells us that both groups have to write different genre which is either mystery or fantasy. Brook quickly picks fantasy, leaving the other group with mystery.
Mrs. Huston also informs the groups about the novel length and the day it needs to be summited, which is a month from now.
The bell rings and we all start to leave the class. I pull my bag from my desk, and as I'm about to leave, Mrs. Huston calls, and I go to her.
"I'll be in the cafeteria," Tracy whispers as she passes me.The class is empty with just me and her. "Sam, I know you said you are not interested in this competition -"
"Yes I did," I cut in.
She sighs. "okay. I hate to say this but you are the most intelligent literature student I know."
"Why?" I crease my brows.
"You should know why you are brilliant."
"No. I mean why do you hate to say it?" I ask firmly. I tug down the straps of my bag that's over one shoulder.
"You don't want to know that."
"Trust me, it's one thing I've been meaning to know."
She takes a deep breath.
"Okey. Because you are proud and rude," she says with fervid dislikes.I shockingly push back my head.
I might be proud but definitely not rude."But you are intelligent Sam, and I want you to be part of this," she says with a lot of faith.
And she just adds to the reasons why I shouldn't, her faith in me.
"Okey, I'll think about it," I say tentatively. She smiles and I walk away.
I go to the cafeteria, and see Morgan seated with Tracy. While Lucian, a table apart.
They both chortle at what Lucian might have said. I feel kind of jealous, but I'm not, maybe I am, God---I am. I decide to leave. And as I turn Morgan calls me.
I slowly turn to them, "Hey, I was just...I'm um, going to check on my car." I thumb over my shoulder. seriously Sam, is that all you could think of? How silly of me.
They look at me, confuse.
I walk to them and sit next to Lucian. Since I don't have a good skill over jealous lies"So you wanna tell us what happened in there?" Tracy asks me, dropping down her fork on the tray of her grilled chicken. She pushes the tray to the side and locks her fingers on the table as she leans forward. She raises her brows at me.
She's so ready for me, How am I going to tell her I won't participate.
"Nothing." I shrug, and bite a slice of pizza from Lucian's plate."I'm just not doing it," I say chewing, acting like it's not a big deal. But It's not a big deal right?
