I pull the door wide open as I see Xavier.
"Your mom called," he says as he walks in.
"Of course she did." I slam the door.
"Sirens are wailing all over, The police seem to be on duty." His eyes search for something on my shelf.
"Aha." He drags out a book he got me on my tenth birthday.
He bounces on my bed, and I sit on my dresser, looking at myself in the mirror, just tugging at my earlobe.
"You kept it?" He raises the book to my reflection.
"Yeah," I say spinning around.
I hear his chuckles.
"Do you know what the police are searching for?" He gestures with the book towards the door.
He shouldn't play dumb with me
-I know my mom already told him. She sent him here to check up on me."It's who, and you know who." I stop spinning as I face him.
"Yeah, I do. How are you coping with it?"
I stay quiet for a second.
"Weirdly, fine," I say.He nods, flipping pages.
"Have you seen him?"He's asking questions, acting more like James.
"No, I haven't. did James send you to me? to interrogate me?"
I ask, annoyed."No, he didn't." He puts down the book.
"I'm just making sure you are okay.""Oh, Thanks," I tell him.
I trust Xavier.
"He did come," I say with a small voice.
Xavier is surprised for a brief second.
I stand up.
"I don't know." I fly my hands open and sit beside him."I don't just understand why he pretended to be someone else. He had the opportunity to extract every single penny from me but he didn't."
I would have given everything to him. I was stupidly falling for fraud.
My love for him sounded like the lyrics to Beyonce's song 'halo' and now it's beginning to turn into the lyrics of a heartbreak song."Maybe he just wanted to hurt you."
I look at him.
"I'm not hurt," I pontificate.Right now, I'm not.
"Uh-huh," He mutters sarcastically.
"But why would he want to hurt someone he didn't know? I didn't do anything to him."
Come to think of it. Something does not add up. None of this makes sense.
"What if he knew you." Xavier's eyes widen like he just got a clue about something.
"How?"
"Sam, if he's a fraud, then, he did say something to me in the courthouse."
Not again.
"What? That Walter is alive?" I sneer.
"Yes. He's the only one that would want to hurt you."
He's right about that one.
"Xavier, he's dead." I remind him, cause he keeps forgetting that.
"You keep saying that, but there are chances he might not be." Xavier jogs up, pacing in front of me.
"Okey, let's say I believe what it is you are insinuating. Why would he come after me? you are the one who killed him."
He stops and puts his hands on his waist, staring at me like I'm supposed to know the answer to my question.
