Sokovia, Eastern Europe

Speaking of small worlds, isn't it funny how our story takes us right back to where this story started- Sokovia.

Now, I wish I could describe Sokovia as a tropical paradise, a tourist-free hidden gem of a country nestled right in the center of Europe. It's far from that though and, realistically, 'hellhole' is the only word that quite sums up the place's character.

The place is constantly at war, which made it such a good place for HYDRA to experiment under the radar. It has a dark history, having been bombed by the Americans years ago, the people of the nation aren't exactly receptive to the Avengers. Especially since the bombs used to take their lives and destroy their country were all branded with the Stark Industries logo.

Two such citizens of Sokovia are Wanda and Pietro Maximoff. Twins, born and raised in the country by their loving parents. Until the Americans attacked and blew both their apartment building and their parents to smithereens. And in their eyes, that is entirely Tony Stark's fault.

So, the siblings did the only logical thing to do in that situation: they signed up to be experimented on by a terrorist organization.

Suffice it to say, a HYDRA dungeon isn't the best place to forgive and forget and their grudge and hatred for the Stark family only grew.

Now to Madlenka Avlevstrov; her backstory is certainly less villain origin story-esque. Abandoned by her mother at birth, she was immediately tossed into the system. At age six, she was supposedly 'adopted' by Barron Strucker, though her dreams of a real home were short-lived. She was tossed into experimentation by HYDRA, where she met, guess who, Wanda and Pietro Maximoff.

As I said, small world.

The three of them were the only survivors of the experiment and the twins soon took her under their wing. Wanda would tell her stories of her and Pietro's lives before the bombing and these soon enough turned Madlenka against Tony Stark.
