Somewhere Above The Atlantic Ocean

Regret and guilt are two things that are all too often confused with one another. Tony Stark has a guilty conscience. Sure. But what's new? The man has had a guilty conscience for as long as he can remember. He's learned to block out the nagging voice of guilt in the back of mind.

But regret? Regret...

Regret's a fairly new feeling to him and he's not too fond of it.

There have been many times when he should have been filled with enough regret to drive a man to his breaking point but not Tony Stark. Tony Stark was a weapons titan who managed to get away with anything and everything.

Now though, ever since Afghanistan, regret has plagued him relentlessly.

Silence drowns the quinjet, as Tony slumps in his seat, resting his head in one hand and staring fixedly at the ground. For the last two hours, he's been periodically glancing up at his daughter, who's slumped on the floor, passed out still, as Steve watches over her.

Each Avenger sits in their own silent bubble, reflecting on what they've seen that only they will ever know the torture of. Steve stands up and walks to the opposite side of the ship, away from where he was just sat with Aurelia. Bruce's chest glistens with sweat and he writhes around, clutching to the thin, itchy blanket he has wrapped around himself. Thor paces back and forth, wringing his hands anxiously.

On the ground feet away from him, Astrid sits with her legs out in front of her and her shoulders slumped. Natasha is still as a statue, letting her red hair hang before her eyes, as her head hangs in shame. Julia plaits a small strand of her hair, over and over again, tapping her foot anxiously all the while.

In the driver's seat, Clint sits, as Tony is talking on the radio to Hill, "The news is loving you guys. Nobody else is. There's been no official call for Banner's arrest, but it's in the air." she tells them.
