As the Avengers all faced their own, seemingly insignificant, problems back at Barton's home, the two Asgardians had disappeared. A lot has happened to the two, so much that not even their closest friends know what went on between 2012 and their return to Earth. After New York, their lives seemed to be going exactly how they'd always imagined they would.

Then they got back to Asgard and everything changed

Something in Astrid had ignited through all the chaos and change she'd gone through in the last couple of years. So, just after getting back to her home, she told Thor she was leaving and shortly disappeared.

She told him she had to find some answers about who she was and what she was meant to be. Then the Dark Elves came, Thor lost Frigga and Loki and then even gave up his kingdom. And she wasn't there. She wasn't there and that hurt him. So, when the two of them finally reunited on Earth, they were far from the picturesque couple that the people of this planet knew.

Now, Thor stands in the car park of a university, his grey hoodie pulled up to cover his long blonde hair. He leans against a car and glances around, trying to remain inconspicuous as he waits for a particular scientist to leave.

Across the car park, Astrid stands in front of a few trees, watching the man she's followed all the way from Barton's home. Selvig walks out of the building and begins talking to him; the two of them exchange a few words before they climb into the car and drive off. With her lips pressed into a thin line, somewhere between a scowl and a face of indifference, Astrid turns on her heel and walks off.

A day or two later, Thor and Selvig wander into the cave, neither of them saying a word. As they walk through a particularly thin passageway, Selvig walks behind the god. Suddenly, he stops in his tracks, causing Selvig to bump into him.
