Chapter 2: Unbelievable

Elia's pov

Argh!! Audra gets me so pissed off. Sometimes I wosh I could have the courage to stand up to her and tell her fuck off, but she would no doubt get her dad to expel me. I helped Jackie with her stuff and smiled at her, trying to tell her that things will get better. Someday, maybe not today or tomorrow, but someday someone will stand up to those devilish Angels and put them in their place.

Jackie and I stopped for the daily stroll of 5SOS. Gosh, Luke is so cute!! I mean, I know he will never look at me considering Jackie and I are practically the least popular people in school, but I still believe that anything could happen. I saw Jackie staring at Micheal with a hopeless expression, and I hugged her. Without looking away from him, she hugged me back, silently saying that she'll keep on hoping.

I pulled her away and tooke her to class. Almost suffocating in the awkward silence, I said the one thing that would make her laugh.

"Calum's butt is so smooth today."

As expected, she burst out laughing, smacking me in the arm as I laughed my head off as well. She smiled and sighed.

"One day, Jackie, one day."

"Yeah. But when?"

"That's the beauty of it my friend, no one knows."

"Shut up."

We sat down and as usual, no one came in until the tardy bell rang. We never answered the teacher's questions, but she still gave us participation credit due to her knowing our past. She didn't have to ask if we were here or not, we wouldn't answer anyway. The only way she knew we were absent was if we left a colored tape on her desk. Red was me, Purple was Jackie.

The first three periods passed with nothing unusual. Calum disrupted class, Ashton flirted with all the girks except me of course, and Audra tripped me three times in one period. But I never would have guessed what would happen in fourth period.

We were going to do a project in which we had to work in pairs. We were going to work together for about three weeks on a lab experiment. The partners would be chosen by the teacher. Many gurls had their eyes on Luke already, and when the teacher would pair them with someone else, they would groan in disappointment. Even though I would always tell Jackie to keep her hopes up, I couldn't believe my own words sometimes.

Jesus was being an asswhole to me so far, so I didn't really hope that Luke and I would get paired up. But then....

"Daisy Cassares with John Goodman, and Luke Hemmings with Elia Olivo."

I couldn't believe my ears. Everyone looked at the only girl left without a partner (me) and back at Luke with their mouths hanging open. Jasmine was glaring at me and Luke looked at me and smiled. He started to walk over to me since I was his partner and we're working together.

He stopped right in front of me and looked back at everyone else. They had gotten to work, but kept stealing glances at us. I looked down at my feet in order to keep him from seeing my blushing face. He turned back to me and grabbed my arm, surprising me. With awful memories flooding my mind, I jerked my hand away.

"What?" he asked, looking confused and cute at the same time. I gulped down my fear and quietly said, "I can walk by myself."

He shrugged and grabbed my arm again anyway, causing my stomach to churn, but not in fear. He grabbed our equipment and pulled me out the door where we would have to go to different places around the school to swab things for bacteria.

He gave me a Q-Tip and let go of my arm.

"Wait here," he said. I noticed that we were in front of the boys restroom and I blushed. He wanted me to wait for him outside of the boy's restroom? He soon came out with his Q-Tip and swiped it on the gel that would help the bacteria grow.

"Okay, now you go in." he said, pointing at the girl's restroom. I stared at him like, you're going to wait out here for me?

Seeming to get my message, he nodded, and when I still didn't go inside, he opened the door and shoved me in with a sigh.

3 times. He touched me three times and actually talked and smiled at me!! I began fangirling in my head.

"Are you done in there? It's a bit embarrassing to be waiting outside the girl's restroom you know!"

I gasped and quickly swabbed the toilet handle, then walked out. I did what Luke had done earlier and threw away our Q-Tips. He smiled at me as he realized we were almost done gathering samples. I half smiled back at him, then a foot tripped me as I was walking.

I fell, almost hitting my head on the nearby trashcan, but a pair of strong arms quickly wrapped around me and pulled me up before I could hit the floor. I realized they were Luke's arms and blushed. I felt his arms tighten around me as he realized I was about to cry. His head leaned forward and his warm breath was on my ear, sending chills down my spine as he whispered,

"Are you okay?"

I nodded, my body a bit tense as I wasn't comfortable with guy's holding me. But when Luke held me, my body began to relax, and I felt a sense of security in his arms. Gosh, I couldn't wait to tell Jackie about this at Lunch.

He kept one arm around me as he turned around to glare at Jasmine.

"Why did you do that? She wasn't bothering you."

Jasmine glared at me for making her crush get mad at her. I hid behind him, and surprisingly, he moved his body so that he was between me and her.

"She's a dumb nerd and a freak. You don't really want to be her partner, you're just working with her because you have to."

That stung! I hung my head as tears threatened to fall. She was right. He didn't really want to work with me, it was only because he had to. I was a nobody after all.

Luke's arm tightened around me, and his next words surprised everyone.

"Even if we weren't paired up together I would still want to work with her because she's way nicer than a slut like you!"

He dragged us away as I stared at him with my mouth hanging wide. Did he really mean that? No, he couldn't have. He just said that to make her feel bad, he doesn't really want to work with me, it's all just a sick joke.

We continued working, but neither of us were speaking. We finished gathering the samples and headed to class. The bell rang and he walked out along with everyone else.

I knew it. Of course he won't say goodbye to you, you're noone to him. I walked put the door and there he was. He looked at me and smiled.

"We have the same lunch period, might as well walk you there so you won't get tripped again."

Am I dreaming? I thought to myself as we walked to the cafeteria. But he seemed so real, and from the look on Jackie's face, I could tell I wasn't dreaming.
