Set during a like supreme gig.
I had a surprise in store for Judy. I'm taking her to see samurai. Well what's left of samurai.
I called Judy,Judy: hey V!
V: hey Jude! I have a surprise for you! I'm coming to pick you up! Be ready in 20 minutes and wear something punky.
Judy: Um ok V I'll get ready!I hung up and put on johnnys jacket and his samurai shirt. I brushed my hair and then went down to the garage to get Johnnys Porsche. I drove to Judy's place blasting samurai songs. I saw Judy waiting by her van. She saw me pull up and made her way to the passenger seat.
"Hey V. Wanna tell me what this surprise is?"
I looked at her outfit. She is wearing a crop top samurai shirt I bought her a while ago and her classic overalls. I drove to the red dirt bar.
Once we arrived, I opened the door for Judy and I told her to get herself situated at a table. I saw Nancy and Denny.
"Hey, V." Denny greeted me.
Nancy gave me a smile. "V! Got somethin' for you. Dunno if you know, but once upon a time this was Silverhand's."
Nancy opened the guitar case that was lying on the table.
Johnny appeared and he looked happy, "Fuck. Nancy just gets shit done. Should just whisper "Mikoshi" in her ear, we'll be all set."
I was starstruck, "DeLuze Orphean. 'Member that Samurai graffiti in Heywood where the bakery used to be?"
"Uh-huh. Got pointed over a while ago. But yeah, Johnny was holding the Orphean there. Nice one." Nancy said.
"Where'd you find it? It's, like, fresh off the shelf." I touched the guitar.
"Bought it, private collection. Always like to have everything down to the last detail." She smirked. My phone buzzed as Judy sent me a quick text.Judy: are you talking to Denny and Nancy from samurai?? Is that who I'm lookin' at?
V: yup! Don't worry the surprise will be soon, babe. Just sit tight."Gets too obsessed at times, but gotta respect her hustle." Johnny said from behind me eyeing his guitar.
"How 'bout you tell me what happened with Henry." I turned to Denny.
"Ancient history. Kept falling into all sorts of crap, then I'd have to dig him out." Denny sighed.
"You got tired of getting your hands dirty all the time?"
"All wrong. Managed to get him a gig with a decent band. Henry quit usin', got his shit together, things were goin' great. So he booted me out of his life."
"So what happened next?" I wasn't trying to pry but the kinda dragged me into this.
"You get off on this sort of drama? He ditched me, partied with his new pals for a month. Then they tossed 'im out 'cause he started acting up again. Ran into him on the street total mess, conk even fainted for effect, a tug at my heartstrings." Denny shrugged.
"What'd you do?"
"Left him right there. And made damn sure he couldn't find me again."
"How ya feelin' ahead of the show?" I asked Denny.
"Weird. Like I'm about to pretend to be... myself. Plus, Johnny's out. Never thought I'd say I miss the bastard, but I damn well do." Denny said with a sad look.
I turned to Nancy, "Hey, thanks for putting the gig together."
Nancy scoffed, "Please, Kerry couldn't twiddle his own asshole without my help."
"Silverhand was prolly the same." Johnny flipped me off.
"Heh, worse. At least Kerry did what I told him to do, kept outta my hair."
"Dunno if you know, but once upon a time this was Silverhand's." Nancy gestured to the guitar.
I looked around, "Where's Kerry?"
"Should be here any minute. Told me you play really well. Better be true, 'cause there won't be a dress rehearsal." Nancy said.
"Right. Can't let that full house down." I laughed.
"Honestly, got no idea who these people are." She shrugged.
"Just strays. Kerry didn't want word to get around." I explained.
"Yeah, well we'll see about that." Nancy raised an eyebrow.
"You think the media caught wind of this?" I asked.
"For sure. Hyenas."
"I'd worry more about Henry's replacement." I furrowed my brows.
"Kerry got Drausin from Cutthroat to join us. I know him, seen him play." Nancy said.
"And? He any good?" I asked.
"He's... fine. Just... fine. You're the mystery dish, here." She patted my arm giving me a look.
Johnny appeared, "Pill time. Just be discreet."
"And if I start puking blood again?" I rolled my eyes.
I walked over to the bathroom.
"Don't go making a scene. This is Kerry's big night." Johnny smoked a cig, seeing it made me crave one.
"Got a feeling Nancy doesn't think I can keep up with 'em."
Johnny agreed, "Well, she's right."
I locked myself in the stall and johnny appeared.
"Ready to thrash?" Johnny asked.
"I dunno, maybe this isn't such a good idea." I looked at the pill in my hand.
"Now you mention it?" Johnny rolled his eyes.
"It's getting worse. Maybe this gig isn't worth it?" I said.
"Fine. Go out and play. I'll just sit back, tend to my bleedin' ears." He got me there.
"OK, fine. You got me. Have fun." I took the pill and I felt the pull of nausea and blurry eyesight for a few secs. I felt everything shift and I knew Johnny was in control.
"Let's motor."
Johnny walked out of the bathroom and there stood kerry, "There you are. This is Drausin, from Cutthroat."
Kerry pointed to the guy next to him. "Hey. Big fan, huge fan. You too? Got all their albums, I mean, I never dreamed I'd-"
"Chill, choom. Shes in the same boat as you. Wanna talk to a star, talk to me. And get that shakin' under control. Think my shakes're the same or worse." Kerry patted drausins back.
"Crowd got you stressed? Or is it me?" Johnny laughed.
"Fuck you." Kerry flipped johnny off. Johnny picked up the guitar.
"And missed you, too. All right. Let's do this." We all took our places on the stage and my eyes, well johnnys for now, met Judy's eyes. She seemed shocked and excited. Kerry started to play a like supreme and we all followed suit. After that song we played never fade away and then finished it off with chippin' in. We all got off stage and Judy met johnny halfway and kissed him. He pulled back.
She noticed.
"Johnny? Give me V back please." Johnny took one of the pills and I felt control go back to me.
"Hey babe. Like the surprise."
"Like it? I loved it! God that was preem! Who knew having a dead rocker boy in your head would work out." She kissed me. I heard boots behind me and Kerry walked up.
"Hey Kerry. What's up? How was the show? You guys have fun?"
"It was... god I don't even know how to describe it. Just preem." I took the guitar off my back and handed it to Kerry.
"Here. Take it. As a souvenir." Kerry took the car, admiring it.
"Thanks Johnny, uh V. Sorry"
"It's ok. Johnny says you're welcome." Kerry pulled something from his pocket. A gun.
"Here take it. You could put more use to it then I would." I took the gun from him and pocketed it.
"Thanks." Kerry eyes judy for a brief sec before asking, "how do you tell them apart? Doesn't make any sense to me."
Judy seemed thrown back by the question,
"Well the way they walk for one, v walks with caution, and Johnny has a lazy walk like he just doesn't care. Johnny smokes a lot. I can always smell it. And there is always a slight difference in their voice, v's voice is raspy but also soft. Johnnys voice is a bit more hoarse and deeper."
"Hmm. Interesting. Well see ya guys later! Thanks for all the help V!" Kerry walked off.
"Well that was eventful." I turned toward Judy. She kissed me.
"Come on, rocker girl. Let's drink." Judy dragged me over to the bar as we drank away the rest of our day.
