Weeks passed by as the snow melted and the spring air washed through. Annabelle's abilities grew stronger and stronger each day. She was able to absorb someones emotions by the touch of their skin, read minds without having them in eyesight and developed strength and speed that to match her brother.
Oliver spent days trying to get Annabelle to break and realise her emotions and abilities herself. He ran countless tests and even brought in a therapist for her to talk to.
Putting two and two together he realised she was blocking out her abilities and had done so for so long that now her body was hiding them from herself. Her body was bound to let them all out eventually, he just didn't have the time to wait.
Being fed up with her stubborn subconscious he injected her with a burning red liquid, her veins felt like lava as she fell to the ground. It reminded her of the Christmas party as a wave of energy escaped her body, blanketing the cold cell. Sending her self unconscious.
As the days went on she was holding on to every memory she had of James, quickly catching on to their shared psychic connection. She didn't know how it happened but she was able to access his mind, no matter where he was.
Laying down in her cell after another day of combat testing she closed her eyes and focused on anything resulting in James. Her love for him, the way he tucked his hair out of his face. The warmth of his skin wrapped around her as she sleeps.
Finally she was able to get inside his head. This time it was different, she was in a set of darkness. Surrounded by flashes of dark memories, memories of The Winter Soldier.
Searching through his subconscious as flickers of lightness appeared. Being greeted by every memory of his about their time together. Days spent on the couch watching movies, sunset strolls home from work. The way he would spend time in the morning watching her sleep peacefully before he got up.
A tear broke, running down her cheek. Missing the blissfulness of their relationship, so much light and happiness.
Focusing back at the task at hand she pushed his memories to the front of his subconscious, playing their relationship like a movie on repeat in his head.
As she focused on staying attached in his head she was forced in another direction. Suddenly seeing everything through his eyes as if it where her own. Clear as day.
He was in bed in her apartment, snuggled in the covers wearing nothings but briefs. His eyes flickering open and closed as he slowly started to wake. Pulling the covers back he walked into the bathroom staring at himself in the mirror.
"I miss you, Doll" He whispered through a sigh.
'I miss you too, James' she thought to herself, her heart was aching mirroring his pain.
"Annabelle? Is that you?" James questioned his reflection, freaked out slightly.
'You can hear me?'
"Yes! Are you okay? where are you? - How are you in my head?"
'I'll explain later but first, come break me out of this hell hole!"
Explaining everything she knew about the location and security James threw some clothes and rushed out the door. Calling Steve along the way making she the quinjet was up and ready to go as soon as he arrived.
From what Annabelle had explained to him they where at an old HYDRA base that was abandoned when James escaped. It was roughly a six hour flight, three hours in the quinjet. Even shorter with Tony flying.
Knowing they where on their way Annabelle tried her best to stay calm. Ever since she had developed threatening powers Oliver created a power dimming bracelet that was on her at all times. He would switch the voltage levels when testing out her abilities but was able to flick it back to full strength in a press of a button. Weakening her physical strength.
