I did not sleep that night but stayed in the terrace and watched the mountains. As the sky started to lighten a little, I ran down the stairs and changed into my travel clothes and to the stables. I had brought to packs down. One I was to carry with me and the other I would strap to Heru. Heru was already awake and ready to go anywhere I wanted him to when I got down.
"Up already?" I heard a voice behind me. I turned around expecting Gandalf but found that Elrohir, Lord Elrond's eldest son, was in the doorway.
"How can one get up before she has even laid down to rest?" I smiled and turned back to Heru.
"You still do that?" He asked and walked to Heru's stall.
"You know I do," I answered and picked up a bag of oats. "I can't sleep without seeing death. I watch my mentor die again, I witness the death of Thror, sometimes I see those who are living die. I don't like it," I said sadly.
"Who would?" Elrohir said as he stroked Heru's nose. "Do you still ride without bridle or saddle?"
"Heru can ride freely without it and I do not have to uncomfortable," I answered. "Plus it makes it look like I am more wild than others," I laughed.
"I suppose," Elrohir smiled. He never laughed but he did smile a lot.
"Ah, Elrohir," Gandalf walked up behind me, "did your come to send us off?"
"What? Where are you going?!" Elrohir looked a little panicked and very worried.
"I promised I would meet with the dwarves at the end of the Mountain," I answered truthfully.
"How? From what I have been told, the dwarves decided to go while you were having dinner. There was no private conversations between you and the dwarves. Even if there were, you could not have been with them long enough to promise anything," Elrohir went into an elaborate explanation.
"I did have a conversation and I did promise them though not in the same conversation," I answered and unlocked Heru's stall.
"How did you do that?" Gandalf asked. "I am quite curious."
I smiled and tapped my nose, "That is for me to know and you to find out when the time is right." I walked out of the stables with Heru following me and Into the open air. The sun was rising steadily and Heru seemed excited.
"Let us be off then," Gandalf said and walked past me.
"If there is no way to persuade you differently, then I wish you good luck and I hope that you return one day," Elrohir bowed. Gandalf nodded his head and I did the same.
"Good bye, Elrohir," I answered. "I wish you may pleasant journeys yourself." I walked away and Elrohir and Gandalf started to start their goodbyes. Heru followed me and I walked to a near by patch of green grass. "The mountains are too dangerous for you, old friend," I whispered to Heru. "Go to Beorn's. He will take care of you until we can be reunited. Go!" I ordered and Heru kicked in the air in protest before galloping off and over the hills.
"Where has your horse gone?" Gandalf approached and asked just as Heru disappeared over the hills.
"I sent him to a good friend of mine's to be taken care of while we are in the mountains," I answered sadly.
"Good, the Misty Mountains are no place for a horse of his satire," Elrohir answered next to Gandalf looking at the hills.
"We should be going," Gandalf said and we waved goodbye to Elrohir and started for the Mountain trail.
It took us long to come to the mountains and it took us long to navigate through Them. What we found in them was shocking. Chunks of mountain had been taken away and a dent so large it was impossible for anyone elf or dwarf to bypass it.
"There must have been a Thunder Battle between the Stone Gaints," I said and picked up a handful of the rumble.
"I have never seen one but I would like to," Gandalf answered.
"They are amazing but deadly," I said and rubbed my hands together. "Deadly if you get caught in the middle of one," I said and something caught my eyes. I walked to a large rock and pulled Fili's pipe from next to it. "And it looked like they did."
"Could that have survived?" Gandalf asked in a haste.
"That depends," i shrugged. "They could have by the looks of things." I stopped and listened for anything. My elf hearing came in handy. "Did you hear that?" I asked. A faint voice could be heard screeching words to an awful poem.
"What?" Gandalf asked and strained his ears.
"Gandalf," I looked at him gravely, "they are in Goblin Town."
"You go to the exit out of the mountains. That is where I will lead them," Gandalf said and rushed past me. "Keep it clear and make sure everyone gets out!" I nodded and we went separate ways at a split. He went up to the higher levels of Goblin Town and I went to the bottom of the mountain.
