"Alright, fine!! I'll get your textbook if it'll make you shut up, ya degenerate!" Tenko spat.
Shuichi bowed slightly in response,
"Ah, thank you, Tenko. And again, I apologize for the inconvenience I've caused you."
"Alright, alright you can stop apologizing so friggin' much, ya know. It's really getting on my nerves." Tenko scoffed as she made her way out of the dining hall.
'Men just can't keep up with their things to save their lives, huh? Now I've gotta walk all the way up the stairs, to the library JUST to retrieve this hopeless male's textbook.'
It was late at night, too. Around 9:30, and she still wasn't in her dorm yet. The monokuma announcement will go off soon; indicating the start of curfew, so she must make haste. She opened the door to the library, and what she saw took her back slightly.
It was Rantaro Amami, oddly enough. He looked to be asleep, face-down in a book.
'What's he doing here so late? Does he not know about the curfew!?' Tenko sighed as she began to walk past him in search for Saihara's book. She would've normally paid no mind to him, but this time was different.
Rantaro had been expressing signs of burnout for a few days now, though before she never cared. He was a man after all, so he'd get over it, right? Tenko was genuinely worried for his well-being, a feeling she wasn't used to. She hesitantly patted his back, just to test the waters.
'Yup, he's out cold.. He feels cold, too. His back's gonna be sore in the morning sleeping like this. Guess I gotta wake him up then..'
She looked down to the side of her and awkwardly spoke,
"Hey, uhhh, Rantaro.. Ya gotta get up. If you wanna sleep, ya gotta do it in your bed.."
Damn, she's not good at this. Then she heard Rantaro shifting in his seat. She snapped her head back to see he had begun to stir. Tenko chuckled,
"Light sleeper, huh?"
He sat up, and began to take in his surroundings. Not long later, his emerald eyes met with Tenko's. He was obviously exhausted, if the dark suitcases his eyes carried said anything. He gave a lazy wave.
"Heya *yawn* here.. What'cha need, Chab?"
"Chab..? Don't you disrespect my family name like that!!"
Tenko karate-chopped his back as a warning. She normally would have been a lot rougher, but something in her gut was telling her not to. This was really unusual for Tenko, since she just disregarded her gut feelings anyways and ran into things head-first.
"Ahhhh... I'm innocent, I swear!!" Rantaro said sarcastically and held up his hands. Tenko sighed,
"Seriously though, this is not a place to sleep; so come on, up and at 'em."
She patted his back yet again, this time much more gently and swiftly. Rantaro sluggishly stood up in response and began to gather his papers. Tenko slapped his hands away from his belongings,
"Uh- Just leave that stuff there for now, we can get it tomorrow. You need sleep right now more than anything. Just think about how angry Kirumi would be if she heard about you sleeping here."
Rantaro confirmed her previous statement with a big yawn.
"See what I mean? Anyways, lead the way, big boy!" Tenko playfully shoved Rantaro out the library door into the hallway.
It had been about five minutes of walking, and neither of the two had spoken to each other since they began their trip to Rantaro's dorm. Rantaro decided to take it upon himself to break the silence.
"So.. Why are you doing this, anyway? Don't you despise us dudes?"
Tenko stopped in her tracks briefly.
Why was she associating with a man anyway? It's not like she'd get anything out of this..
She sighed; and kept walking, quickening her pace.
"I'm-.. not so sure myself.. I came into the library to retrieve Shuichi's textbook, and I just saw ya' lying there. I guess I couldn't leave you.."
Rantaro nodded.
"I see.. Having a change of heart?" He teased.
Tenko gaspsed, her cheeks tinting a slight pink.
"Hey, this was a one-time thing! I'm not softening up to y'all males just yet!"
Rantaro chuckled.
"Don't worry, I wasn't expecting you to."
They arrived at his door. As Rantaro took the knob in his hand, he turned to Tenko.
"But in all seriousness, thank you. I would have no doubt woken up with awful neck and back pain, and a lecture from Kiyotaka about staying out past curfew."
"Oh, it's no problem, I guess.."
Tenko was oddly quiet in her last sentence; but Rantaro couldn't blame her, for she was still learning. Although seeing her flustered over common acts of human decency was endearing in a way; it proved that she can indeed be tolerant of men if anything else.
Who knows? Maybe she'll learn that not all of them are that bad.
*Shuichi cries in the distance*
