It was Tuesday morning, and Rose's heart was pounding violently. It was 9:37AM and she was in her classroom awaiting the subject teacher for the next period.
Rosette was a senior student in Greengroove High school, in 12th Grade. It is located in Mushin, Lagos, Nigeria. There, she was the Head Girl of her school and was loved by most of the students and her teachers.
She had straight A's in her SS1 and SS2 in the majority of all her subjects but later on...
She began to flop.
And it was all due to distractions. Distractions from the social media, distraction from TV and distractions from her supposed "boyfriend."
Although the flop wasn't much, but majority was from Mathematics and Physics. She began to play a lot and joke about her studies. Here's the result from her SS2 3rd term exam:
Maths - C
Physics - D
English - B
Chemistry - B
Economics - A
Biology - A
Civic - CAnd now that she is a final year student in SS3, now isn't a good time to flop in her studies. She really needed to step up her game, if she wanted to do well in her JAMB and her WAEC most especially.
But today wasn't really the "perfect" day for her because of the Maths test she wrote last Friday.
As her heart kept beating rapidly, she thought to herself; "Gosh, I'm so gonna fail this test." Her mind drifts off.
The English teacher then drops an assignment and leaves the class.
The class had 5 rows and 5 columns in it. The class is filled with boys and girls sitted in their chairs.
Some writing, other gisting, laughing and making chatters here and there.
The Maths teacher walks in and the class falls dead silent.
Rose's racing heartbeat increases.
'BAM BAM BAM!' is what is heard as someone hits their desk for the class to greet their teacher, who had the test scores in his hands.
"Good moorning, Mr. Lekun, you are welcome." They all said in unison.
"Good morning all, you can have your seats." He replied. There was silence again in the room.
"Firstly, I would like to say that I am indeed disappointed with your performances in the test that I gave you all last week." He stated frowning. This caused Rosette's heart to be in her throat, she began sweating and her stomach rumbled due to fear.
"... And as you all know my pattern," He continued. "I am going to call the people that did well first, share their scripts and they will receive a round of applause.
Now the people who did well are; Chioma Nnamdi 9/10, Francis Kunle 7^1/2, Precious Aisha 6/10, Princess Ayo 8/10 and Bumi Akindele 10/10." He called out handing them their scripts, the recipients smiling with glee.
There was a round of applause, some of the students wondering why Rosette's name wasn't called, because she always aced her tests. This was her first time of failing or doing poorly.
Rose's best friend and girlfriend Chioma mouthed to her and saying: "Why wasn't your name called?" Although she didn't raise her voice.
To be continued.
