Meetings.

There were always plenty of meetings.

About the country, about the castes, about the people, about the law, about the criminals, about our allies, about war...
I hated them.

We were seating in a big room, around a huge table with all the advisers shouting, protesting or whatever.
Everything, excepted calmly.

All men.

I think we had to change that too.

We needed women, to bring a little calm to those angry men.

Wonder were my headaches were coming from .

Maxon was trying is best to make sure everyone was happy but it was useless.
They were talking...
No...
Shouting, over each other.
Are they ever gonna calm down ?
Really ?
Is it possibly to speak about important things without getting angry because you don't get what you want or things are not going the way you want them to :
" Your Majesty, we shouldn't do this"
" Why are we still discussing this ? I think it's done now. We will do it."
" Things are not that simple, Rusten. We can't change everything just by saying it's not good anymore."
" Did I say that ? Why do you think I work for ? To let this country fall apart ?"
" You don't decide the rules !"
" Hey ! Men! We should calm down a little !"
" Well okay say something then ! Because you haven't proposed anything from what I know!"

It's was exhausting.
They were fighting like little kids.
Maxon's gaze shifted toward me as he shrugged " Okay, Sirs, PLEASE, let's calm down." he said, but the voices were to loud.

If they don't stop right now, they aren't going to like it.
Don't piss a pregnant woman off.
" Sirs, stop now. There are no needs to shout !" Maxon tried again.

Enough was enough.
" Shut up !" I said.
A few turned toward me but the other were still arguing.
My face went literally red :
" YOU ALL SHUT UP NOW !"

They all stopped instantly, looking at me with wide eyes.

Silence.
It. felt. so. good.

I finally said " Thank you ." and faked a
smile.

I saw Maxon in the corner of my eye, smirking.

" So as I was saying : we can't dissolve the castes at the same time, right now." He said in a clear voice.
"There are too many things too consider and, personally, I don't really want to deal with a bunch, way more than a bunch, of angry people, protesting because things go too fast."
" We will take it step by step as we agreed in the beginning."
"I, and the queen, will listen to what you have to say and consider it." He paused, looking at me.
" But for that to be done, you will have to let others talk and explain yourself calmly. No need to get angry or to shout. Everyone has his own opinion and that's perfectly fine. You will be heard." He finally said.

The meeting finally ended.
But when all the advisers left the room, I saw August Illéa standing up and walking directly to Maxon.
I left the room, not knowing what did he wanted to say.
He specifically went to Maxon, so there was no need for me to stay.
And I know Maxon is going to talk to me about it after.

It was starting to get cold in Angeles.
We were at the end of January.
It was already Winter .

There is no snow in Angeles.
It has been more then two years now, that I live here and I have never seen one snowflake.
I wonder if Maxon did, because he lived here his hole life.

Suddenly, I hear shouts behind me.
It comes from a room.
As I walk through the corridor leading to the voices, I realize it comes from the meeting room, were I left Maxon and August alone.

I get closer to the door and I can clearly hear what they say :
" ... I know it's difficult, but right now, no one really listen to us." A voice said : it was August's. " People don't care, they just won't give up and the castes will never get dissolves !" he continued, getting angry.
" And what do you want me to do then ?!"
It was Maxon.
" Because being patient and nice with them, doesn't seem to work, I think we should to it the hard way now." August said.
" What are you saying, is you want to threat them ? " Maxon asked, angrily.
" I didn't say that ! But maybe we should force them a little more. By taking their advantages away ." August explained.
" Do you really want them to rebel ?" Maxon said
" No !" August shouted
" So why are you proposing that we should force them into the dissolution of the castes ? Because if we did, I know exactly what will happen ." Maxon said, clearly on edge.
" And what do you think will happen ? It doesn't seem like you really know your people Maxon. If you don't scare them or at least threat them, they won't accept to do anything !" August shouted
" Excuse me ?! " Maxon answered.

Oh gosh he was mad.

" Do you know who you are talking too right now ? You don't have the right to say I don't know my people." He said, his fist knocking hard on the table . "I try every single day to understand them, to give them what they want. And the dissolution of the castes is what they wanted. It's not because certain people are not happy about it that I will act threateningly. Do you want them to revolt ? To hate their king ?"

August didn't say anything at first.

"I don't think we have the same opinion at all" Augusts finally said, less angry. " Maybe it wasn't that good of an idea to work together..."

As he said this, he started walking towards the door, to leave the room.

Oh no ! I need to hide ...

There was a little door behind me.
It's probably leading to the kitchen.

I opened it, stepped inside the corridor, and closed it instantly.

August left the meeting room, fast, with heavy steps .

Than I heard Maxon say " Damn it !"

And he left a minute after.

I thought he would speak to me about this argument with August at dinner tonight, but he didn't.

Weren't we supposed to tell each other everything ?
Should I tell him I heard everything ?
No.
If he didn't tell me, there must be a reason.
I felt he was still a bit angry, but I let it go.

Maxon worked late that night, so I slept alone in my bedroom.

Did August really ment what he said ?

Maxon couldn't let him go, he was to important for us .

Without him, we were losing our best allie .

I hoped Maxon would manage to speak to him and get on good terms .

Without August, I don't know if we could dissolve the castes.

And without you reading this I'd be nothing.
