Maxon and Fredrick, were both standing in front of us, stunned.
A heavy silence settled down.
After I turned back to see them, I couldn't move, I was frozen.
Did they just heard every single words Daphne said ?
About what she thinks of me, about Maxon and about how she feels toward Frederick." I-I... huh... it's not what I ment... I- I didn't really..." Daphne stammered.
I turned my head slowly toward her, and I could see that the colors dropped from her face : she was a sick white color.
Then, Frederick just un-froze, understanding what just happened and his eyes started glowing, but his look was only pure rage.
" You know what ?" He suddenly said, in a tone full of anger. " You won't need to complain anymore about me : I ask the divorce."
Daphne's mouth dropped... as mine and Maxon's.
" I knew something was off with you. I thought that maybe you needed time, that you liked me, you just were a lonely person sometimes." He started getting closer to her " But you just used me ? And now you call me a pet ? And because you couldn't care less, you say this in front of the queen ? And you dare call her a bitch ?" He continued, his finger threateningly pointing toward her. " I don't have anything to do with you anymore. You are the shame herself." He finally said.
He said these last words at a few inches from her face.
Daphne's eyes field with tears, and they fell down on her cheeks." And don't you cry." He said to her firmly. " Because you did this to yourself...and to me."
He left with heavy steps.
Maxon was extremely calm for the circumstances.
He looked at her with this ashamed look, but also with sadness." You will leave today, with your family. I think it's best for everyone. And there's no need to say, you are not welcome anymore in this palace." He said.
" Maxon... I didn't... it's not..." she tried to explain.
" Go." I finally opened my mouth to say.She looked at me, her face a red puffiness, and run away.
I watched her leaving, sobbing, and disappearing being the corner of the hallway.
There was only Maxon and I left, but we didn't say anything.
We just stood there, shocked of what just happen a few minutes ago.
" I think I need to go." I said, before he could answer, I was running down the hallway and climbing the stairs up to my bedroom.
I opened the door, walked into the room, to my bed and I collapsed on it.
I don't know why, but I felt the tears running down on my cheeks .
Maybe what just happen was because of me ?
Because I provoked Daphne, and now Frederick must be devastated. He didn't deserve this, at all.
And it was my fault.
And I was so tired over all of it.
I worked hard on this reception yesterday, and because of my pregnancy I just am so tired.I think I heard someone walking toward my room.
And maybe the door opened.
But I don't really know, because I fell asleep.I felt the wind in my hair.
There was green grass everywhere.
It smelled the same smell just after it rained.
It's warm and sunny, and I hear the birds singing. But all of a sudden, the sky becomes darker and darker until there is no more sun, and until the temperature dropped, to a cold and humid weather.
The birds stopped singing, and I can hear this high pitched noise, coming closer to me.
Then something catches me by the shoulders.
I jump, and when I turn around, I see a man, all dressed up in white with ... no face ?
Then he touches my arm and I start screaming." America" he says my name, he knows my name.
I keep screaming, at least I try too, because I feel like the sound doesn't want to come out of my mouth.
" America" he says again.
Then, I hear Sir Hidson's voice " Your are going to regret this"" America ! America wake up !"
I open my eyes.
I am in my bedroom, on my bed." America ! What is it ? Are you okay ?" It's Maxon.
He is sitting in the edge of my bed, looking at me worried.
" Maxon ?" I asked him.
" Yes, it's me, darling. I was next to you, you were sleeping and then you started moving a lot and when I tried to woke you up you started to scream." He explained
" Oh." I said " I am sorry. I think I had a nightmare."
" Do you want to talk about it ?" He asked me.
" Hum... no, I prefer not." I said.
" Okay... America ?" He asked.
" Yeah ?" I replied
" I'm sorry." He said.
" Me too, Maxon." I told him, still not completely awaken.
" No, America, you don't have to apologize. You
told me about Daphne and I just didn't believe you." He said again.
I looked up at him and said . " It's okay Maxon. I just wished you wouldn't have doubted my feelings for you, even for a second. You know I love you with all my heart, don't you ?" I asked him " And you know I would never kiss someone else. Never."
" I am sorry. Sometimes I... I just... I just don't understand why do you love me. I feel like I am a not being a good husband, and I don't give you enough." He started saying but I cut him off.
" You are enough for me. That's the only thing I want Maxon. By being you, my husband, only mine, it's enough. I don't need anything more : not even food." I teased.
He smiled. " I must be very important then."
" You are. I love you Maxon." I said
" And I love you too America, more than my own life." he said back.
" I am sorry about Daphne." I told him
" It doesn't matter anymore, I guess people change. They are going to leave in one hour. I will let Daphne explain to her parents why. I just worry for Frederick." He explained.
" Yes, me too." I added.Maxon gaze shifted toward the bed and he asked me " Can I lie next to you ?"
" Of course." I answered. He walked around the bed, took his shoes off and lied and the other side of the bed.
I cuddled next to him, and rested my head on his chest.
He stroked my hair a little before saying
" Thank you America."
" Why ?" I asked him, still close to him.But I didn't get my answer because when I lifted my head up a little, I saw that he fell asleep.
I rested my head back on his chest, on a few minutes after, we were both lightly snoring.
