I fell asleep on the plane as we flew to Vancouver. But it wasn't for long. Of course, when flying with Josh Ramsay, you should really expect for there to be at least one crying baby. I heard Josh groan beside me as he tried ignore the babies. Because, of course, it wouldn't be bad enough with just one baby on board. Oh no. There had to be three babies. And as soon as one would start crying, the other two would join. I glanced over at Josh, annoyance clearly written on his face. Wordlessly, I handed him one of the earbuds of my iPod like I had in the airport. He smiled at me.
"Thanks," he said.
"No problem."
I listened to him humming along with every song that played and quickly fell asleep again. I awoke when I felt something repeatedly poking my shoulder.
"What?" I mumbled, still half asleep.
"We're landing in ten minutes. Wake. Up," Josh said as he poked me again.
"Okay, okay, I'm awake. Stop with the poking."
I put all of my stuff back in my carry on bag and waited for the plane to finally land. The second that it did, all I wanted to do was get off of that plane. I was never a big fan of flying or sitting in one spot with awful leg room for hours on end. I guess Josh sensed my urgency because he pulled me forward before anyone else could get into the aisle.
Half an hour later, we had our bags, and we were headed to where Josh left his car when he took off for Charlottetown. I assumed that we would be going straight to his place, but that wasn't the case. He pulled into a parking lot beside a brown building. "This is 604," he said as he put the car in park.
I just stared at him, waiting for an explanation. "Oh, right. We have to make sure everything is good with the legal stuff you had to do. So I thought I'd take you to meet the guys first, then go meet with the legal team and Chad and Jonathan."
I stared at him. "What? I'm doing what?"
He laughed at my expression. "Come on, you'll be fine," he said as he got out of the car. He didn't stop to see if I was following, so I got out of the car and jogged to catch up to him. He led me through the doors, past the security desk in the lobby, and through a maze of halls. We changed directions so many times I knew that I would never be able to find my way out on my own.
After what seemed like an hour, we finally reached a door at the end of a hallway. Josh punched in some numbers on the keypad beside the door and walked in, holding it open for me. I almost choked when I saw Matt and Mike sitting on a couch playing a video game. I hid behind Josh. Silly, I know, but hey, what would you do? I saw Ian in the corner of the room messing around with some tools and his drums. They all looked up when the door opened and mumbled their hello's to Josh before returning to what they were doing. Josh cleared his throat, trying to get their attention. "Someone else is here, you know."
They all looked up as Josh pushed me in front of him. Matt was the first one to get up and walk over to me. He smiled sweetly and extended his hand. "Hey, I'm Matt."
"Alyssa," I replied, shaking his hand. Ian and Mike did the same thing. Josh disappeared into another room off of the main room that we were in, so Mike just told me to sit down somewhere. I sat in a chair opposite of the couch the three of them were sitting on. "So, why don't you tell us about yourself?" Ian suggested.
"Um, well, I'm 19. I go to college, studying business. I'm also an aspiring author and I want to own a bookstore," they continued to just look at me, so I continued. "I, um, was born and raised in Toronto until I was 16, then I moved to PEI."
"Mind me asking why you moved that far away when you were only 16?" Mike asked.
Well. I did mind. But I wasn't exactly going to tell them that. "Um, when I was 15, my dad died. Then a few months later my mom's bosses were dicks and pretty much fired her. So she decided that we should move back to PEI cause she was from there, and, yeah," I said as I looked down at my hands in my lap.
