I stayed curled up on my bed, ignoring my phone whenever it dinged, not caring who it was. I was in shock. Dan. Cheating on me. It didn't make sense. I thought he liked me. I thought we had something. But I guess I was wrong.
A few hours later, Josh knocked on my door.
I dragged myself off of the bed to go answer him. I just opened the door and looked at him, not caring that my makeup was smeared, my eyes red, and my hair resembling a tumble weed.
"Hey what - oh my god what happened?" he asked when he noticed my appearance.
I laughed without humour. "Dan."
"Dan?"
"The British guy from down the hall?"
"I know who he is. What did he do?"
I walked back over to my phone and pulled up the message. Josh looked at my phone in shock.
"What an ass."
"Yeah. Tell me about it. What did you want?"
"I wanted to know why you didn't eat anything. I thought you were hungry."
"Yeah well I wasn't in the mood to be insulted by your girlfriend, by the way, what in the actual fuck is up with that?"
He shrugged. "I decided to give her another chance."
I resisted the strong urge to roll my eyes. "Anyways, I was not in the mood to spend the evening with you and Amanda. So I just came in here. And then I get that message. So not exactly hungry."
Josh gently grabbed my wrist and pulled me out of my room. "You have to eat something, Aly."
"No I don't."
"Yes you do. Don't argue with me."
He brought me to the kitchen and handed me a plate with two pieces of vegetable pizza - my favourite - on it. I sighed. "Thanks."
"You're welcome. Now actually eat it, please."
I rolled my eyes ."Yes, father."
He chuckled. "I'm going to walk Amanda downstairs and then we can discuss how big of a dick Dan is, alright?"
I smiled. "Alright."
About 20 minutes later Josh returned. I was on the couch, flipping through the channels trying to find something that was somewhat interesting on tv, and not succeeding. Josh sat down beside me and looked at me until I paid attention to him. "Yes?" I asked.
"You okay?"
"Not particularly."
"Want to talk about it?"
"Not really."
"Want to make fun of Dan then?"
I smiled sadly. "I just....I don't get it." I sat up, pulling my feet under me, facing Josh. "I don't understand what I did."
"You didn't do anything, he's an ass."
"Yeah but - "
"But nothing, Alyssa. You're an amazing person and it's his loss. Really."
I sighed and stood up. "Yeah but I really liked him."
Josh stood up as well and pulled me into a tight hug. "You deserve to be treated better, Aly. Really. You do. There are better guys out there. That will love you and care for you and treat you right."
I hugged him back. "Thank you."
"No problem."
"I should probably talk to him though."
