The alarm on my phone went off at 10 the next morning. I felt like I didn't sleep that much, and what little sleep I got wasn't that great. I grabbed a towel out of my closet and took a quick shower before I got dressed and went out to the kitchen to grab some breakfast. I saw a little note on the fridge.
Aly,
I had to run out to get something, I'll be back before 12.
- Josh
I rooted around in the cupboards until I found where I had put the cereal the night before and made myself a small bowl full. Shortly after 11 Josh walked in, looking exhausted. "Hey," he said as he put his keys and wallet on the table he leaves them on.
"Morning," I replied, putting my bowl in the dishwasher. I turned around as he was getting a can of Coke from the fridge. He downed it in a matter of seconds.
"Thirsty?" I asked, raising an eyebrow.
He laughed. "Yeah."
"So, uh, how are you? After last night?" I asked, feeling awkward.
"I'll live."
I nodded. "Well I guess that's a good thing."
"We should head out to the studio soon. Just let me get ready and we'll go, okay?"
"Sure."
I played with Bennie and the cats until Josh was ready to go. We got to the studio five minutes late, but were still earlier than the rest of the guys. Josh was messing around on one of his many, many guitars when we heard laughing coming down the hallway. Matt, Ian, and Mike came through the door, still laughing.
Mike smiled at me. "Hey, Alyssa."
I smiled back. "Hey."
All the guys sat around Josh and listened as he explained his ideas. I started to zone out until he put a pad of paper in front of me. "Okay, so we're just going to play some random notes, and if you think of any lyrics, write them down. Or if you think we should play some other chords or something, just tell us. Got it?"
I nodded and picked up the pad of paper and the pen that he placed in front of me and waited for them to start. They played through a few melodies, changing around some chords. "Wait! Do that last one again," I said as I scribbled something down on the paper.
"What, this?" Josh asked as he played the melody again.
"Yes! Keep playing that, but a bit faster."
He nodded and did what I asked. I wrote down a few lines. I smiled as I showed them to Josh. After he read them, he smiled back at me. "I knew there was a reason to pick you to help us with this."
I blushed and looked back down at the lyrics that I had just wrote.
We've been stuck so long
We just got the start wrong
One more last try
I'm a get the ending right

We stayed at the studio for a few more hours. I couldn't think of anymore lyrics, and neither could the guys. They just kept messing with the music part of it until they got bored and decided to leave. Josh and I were the last to leave again. He was in the mini kitchen off of the room that we were working in all day when I heard a crash and him muttering "Fuck." I poked my head in to see Josh picking pieces of something up off of the floor.
"You okay?"
He glanced behind himself to look at me. "Yeah. Just dropped this glass."
I walked over to him and helped to pick up the bigger pieces before I got the broom to sweep up the smaller ones. He smiled at you after you put the broom back. "Thanks."
