"loving him is like driving a new Maserati down a dead-end street,
faster than the wind, passionate as sin, ending so suddenly"harley was never real close with dallas winston before. they were friends, in the gang together, but as for anything else they didn't talk much. maybe he was always in jail when she was home, or maybe they just didn't have much in common. whatever it was, it's different now, harley had found herself hanging out with him more and more.
after the first month of school they felt that they should celebrate. so those who had school ditched and harley, sodapop, steve, two-bit, ponyboy, johnny and dally had found themselves in a local quarry. well some of them.
"come on in dal, the water isn't even cold" sodapop yelled wiping the water out of his eyes.
dally rolled his eyes "my cigarette would definitely go out if i jump in there."
"and?" harley questioned. dally probably would've had a better comeback if one of the guys had said it but the smile plastered on her face was large and contagious leaving him no choice but to smile too. he covered his burst of emotion by rolling his eyes and taking another drag off his cigarette. his immediate reaction didn't go unnoticed as harley pushed again. "dont be a pussy."
"that's not gonna work on me im not steve." dally laughed still not getting in the water.
steve gasped and started to say something to dally as two-bit pulled the rest of them in a huddle. "time for plan b. harley you push him in" he announced.
"what why me?" the girl questioned.
"because, he likes you more." two replied.
"johnny's his favorite." harley rebuttled.
"no way man i'm not doing it." johnny said, crossing his arms.
and so harley made her way up the rocks while dally was still arguing with steve. unfortunately, just as she was about to push him in he noticed her and scooped her up throwing her back in the water.
i guess the difference between now and her last time in tulsa is that there would never be a time where harley and dally would be looking at each other in the eyes laughing. it wasn't right, he was supposed to be cold, and she wasn't supposed to think this was funny, she normally would have been mad if it was someone she wasn't that close with.

on the day of sodapop curtis' birthday the gang had decided to throw a party, well not really throw since all they had to to was say there was one and people would do the rest. it was at bucks and the gang arrived to an already busy crowd of people. a lot happened that night for everyone but the most memorable part for harley was at the mere beginning. as she separated from the group to find a drink she was stopped by a soc. she said excuse me and tried walking away and she was stopped again. every time the soc spoke she looked for an escape but wasn't able to find one until finally she got an idea. "i have a boyfriend." she spat out desperately, it the first idea that came to her mind, but she immediately regretted it.
"really, who?" the soc responded crossing his arms. harley panicked searching the room before accidentally locking eyes with dallas winston. she hadn't said anything before the soc raised his eyebrows "there's no way you're dating dallas winston."
"that's fine i don't need you to believe me" harley said walking away, but she knew he would watch her and wouldn't leave her alone unless she proved it so she walked up to dallas himself.
"hey dal, i know this is weird, but will you pretend to be my boyfriend so this soc will leave me alone.." she asked holding her breath.
"yeah," he said locking eyes with the soc and sighing looking back at harley. harley was shocked he was so onboard but dally was loyal and would always help out his friends with socs. he put out his cigarette on the bottom of his boot, and stepped closer to the girl wrapping one of his arms around her waist and using the other to push a stand of hair behind her ear. he looked around again before asking, "can i kiss you?" he shot panic through the girl, not the same panic as before, but panic that made her worry about things like if her breath smelled good or if her skin looked clear that close up. "oh sorry, he's watching i thought maybe it would get the point across sorry if that was crossing a boundary." he said acknowledging the girls shocked expression.
"oh, no, that's a good idea, you can kiss me." harley finally spat out and with that dally learned forward pressing their lips together. he kept his firm grip around her waist and threw his other hand in her hair. harley slid her hands on both sides of his neck. he smelled like cigarettes and not a drop of alcohol and harley found herself finding comfort around him. in the sea of drunk assholes at least this asshole was sober and protecting her from the others.
dally pulled away leaving harley a bit flustered over what just happened and possibly a bit disappointed it was over. "he's gone." dallas said, removing his hands and lighting up another cigarette.
"thank you." she said slipping her hands into her pockets.
"no problem but for future reference just let me know if a soc is bothering you, ill take care of him." he replied, "do you want me to walk you home?"
"no, i'm fine, i'm gonna go find soda and steve." she said, causing the boy to nod and wander off further into the party.

the next day harley awoke on the curtis brother's couch with a pounding headache. apparently she has found herself drinking after her encounter with dally. the past events had flashed through her mind all night, why was he so respectful towards me unlike with other girls? why did he help me? why did i enjoy it so much? and as none other than dallas winston walked through the front door, why does he make me so nervous?
a/n: i know dally isn't that nice but i don't wanna romanticize toxicity lmao
